this guy just bid on our car and won it

our car had 3 bids on it b4 he bid and each of the bidders had asked questions about the car this guy bid with 22 secs to go

He might have just come in at the last min and really wanting it.
I think if he backs out you can offer it to the second on the list.

I bought my car on ebay and went to see it before the bid end and asked all the questions then.

sallycinnamon · 24/09/2006 22:10

Make sure that if he does back out you file an unpaid item dispute. I think its only then you can offer to the others on your bidders list.

Twiglett · 24/09/2006 22:11

if you file an unpaid item dispute do you still have to pay their charges (including the percentage of price paid even though its not been paid)?

dmo · 25/09/2006 10:42

so cross with him
says he wants it but can only come on saturday
tax is due end of september
what do i do? is it his as he won the auction? or is it still mine till money and paper work sorted

mysonsmummy · 25/09/2006 10:50

whats the problem with him coming on saturday - hes probably working all week.

NotSoUselessMum · 25/09/2006 10:54

when I bought mine the tax had expired already as the wendor had kept in on his drive for a bit. so it was a bit of a nightmare to go and have it taxed as I had to arrange insurance as well. But untill he pays you and complete all the paper work the car is still yours. If you tax it you should let him know that you'll add it on the total.
You can wait untill saturday but he might decide he doesn't want it after all. does he sound keen?

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 10:56

Saturday is Sept 30th, you get 14 days grace after expiration to the DVLA will not be hassling you about it. I found this out after my tax expired whilst I was on holiday. I knew it was going to expire whilst I was away so I phoned the DVLA and was told that it would be fine. Make sure you send the V5 off though so that the you are not down as the registered keeper of the car, otherwise they will stiff you for it.

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 10:58

If he decides he doesn't want it and you pull out then you can declare the car as off the road (SORN) if you don't want to go to the expense of re-taxing it. It could be a prob for the buyer though as they wouldn't be able to drive it home until it had valid tax.

fattiemumma · 25/09/2006 11:03

if you file non paying bidder then ebay will refund your sellers fee's.

print out all the details of the sale and as much info as you have about the guy who won.
if you get any comebacks you can inform al; those who need to knowwhats happened and i am sure there will be some sort of loophole

dmo · 25/09/2006 11:03

thanks will tax it on monday if he does not buy the car
i dont have a drive so will have to re-tax it

My brother tried to buy a car on ebay, he won the auction but also lived 200 miles away from where the car was. The seller refused to kepp the car for 3 days to allow him to get down their and filed a non payment thingy and left bad feedback whilst he had the chance.

My brother complained to ebay and explained what had happened and ebay agreed that the seller was being completely unreasonable refused to cover the sellers costs and removed the feedback.

Allow the buyer the time to get down to you if you don't then you will be held responsible (rightly so) but if he then pulls out, report him straight away as any questions or doubts he had should have been resolved before he bid.

dmo · 25/09/2006 16:12

dont mind waiting as i can use the car till sat
but just worried if he doesnt turn up that means we could have done second chance offer or readvertised it for another week

jabberwocky · 30/09/2006 18:26

You can also do a second chance offer to the next highest bidder, I believe.

jabberwocky · 30/09/2006 18:27

And you can file a non-payment dispute with ebay.

shhhh · 30/09/2006 20:05

I agree with both of jw posts. If you file a dispute you won;t be liable for fee's (sellers)although I don;t think you can file one till a bit aftre the auction..Check your ebay guidelines they are usually quite simple to follow..

dmo · 01/10/2006 13:22

i checked i can file a dispute tomorrow
sent the car to my mums to leave on her drive
as its not taxed now or insursed
dh came home last night (been to ireland for a week to work) said i should have taxed it but how was i to know the guy wouldnt turn up?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 01/10/2006 13:25

Ignoring the fact that he didn't turn up (which is wrong) but IIRC with a car, the winning bidder is entitled to pull out after inspecting the vehicle.

Having not turned up though, he's a NPB I think. You have to declare the car SORN rather than just not tax it BTW.

dmo · 01/10/2006 13:33

yes will send the forms off tomo
