can you go a night without drinking at all and not miss it?

Twiglett · 19/09/2006 21:54

that's how I define alcoholism .. needing to .. not wanting to

moondog · 19/09/2006 21:54

I would say if three glasses or fewer, not a prob.

I sincerely hope not!
I have one or two glasses every night & really wish I could give it up for a bit but the evening rolls around again & I'm gasping. I always wait until I'm eating though. If DH isn't in I can sometimes beat the craving - especially if there isn't a bottle actually open, but when he's around I have no chance.
Doesn't answer your question Pruni, but at least you are not alone...

moondog · 19/09/2006 21:57

Oh God,wouldn't worry at all Pruni.
Nowt wrong with a glass of vino.

Twiglett · 19/09/2006 21:57

but your evening routines are dependent on you having a drink

I think a drink in the evening should be nice but not ritual

I've just had a becks

but I've had a stressful day and have another lined up tomorrow

I agree with Twiglett. If you have to have a drink every night (no matter how much or how little), then that's problem drinking. You need other ways to unwind, so you have other options.

What's the problem with a ritual??
Our lives are full of them.
I would drink 3-6 glasses of wine every night if my figure and head allowed me too.

Am too fond of tight jeans however.
(Also have to get up v early and have a clear head.)

NotQuiteCockney · 20/09/2006 07:18

Ok, so what happens when you can't drink (ivf, antibiotics, no wine in house)?

Twiglett · 20/09/2006 07:26

my 'rituals' (addictions) involve caffeine and mumsnet mainly

But if, when you're not drinking, you're on a lot of weird hormones, of course you're not going to feel better. (Also, tbh, it would take a little while for you to find new ways to relax without booze.)

noddyholder · 20/09/2006 08:14

You shouldn't really need willpower if it isn't a problem.Drinking there glasses a noght is over the limit for women and hard to know how much because glassesd are a lot bigger now.Can you try alternate nights just to see how you feel.

noddyholder · 20/09/2006 08:15

Sorry my typing is nearly as bad as you know who

Pruni - we were obv separated at birth. It's not something I worry about tbh. I never stop for weeks on end, but I do aim for 1 or 2 nights off per week.

I honestly do NOT see a problem with this, b/c it's moderate AND you can stop.
