I used to think that this was something teenagers did but now understand it's use. But it seems very difficult to do. I'm not very good with technology generally - any handy hints and FF, don't take the p*ss, or would that be Beety.

what phone sort have you got Sykes?

sykes · 05/04/2004 10:10

A Nokia. I think, I'll check.

nokia is easy I can help you out there!

sykes · 05/04/2004 10:21

So how do you do it? It seems to take forever. I am very technologically stupid - if that makes sense.

The more you do it the easier it gets . used to take me ages to write a message , now its much quicker. I use it for my mummy meet up group. as there is a group and it costs less than calling everyone. It is very useful.

pollingfold · 05/04/2004 10:56

You can use the pre emptive setting. When you go into the messaging section then write new message in the top of the left of the screen you will see a pencil icon and "abc" or "ABC". If you press the hash (#)key you will see that change. keep pressing util you see the two lines before the pencil icon and "abc" or "Abc".

Example if you want to spell "care"

This allows you to text without having to press "2" three times to get a "c" then having to wait until the cursor has moved to press it again to get an "a".

The pre emptive messaging allows you just to press "2", "2", "7", "3", and it should automatically comes up with a word that has those 4 letters in it. My phone comes up with "case", all you do then is press the star key (*) until the word you want comes up.

Hope that helps and isn't teaching you to suck eggs.

sykes · 05/04/2004 11:07

Thanks - it's certainly not teaching me to suck eggs - I'll have to read it v carefully. It seems that unless I edit things in edit word the letters are all underlined and back to front. I have seen the abc thing so will investigate.

Agree with Melsy - it does get easier the more you do it It's especially easy with the predictive text option although you do need to remember to check it's come up with the word you wanted.

Fairyfly · 05/04/2004 11:15

Sykes there is absolutely nothing you can do , i have met you and you have to come to terms with the fact your dim. Now just because i can write texts very very very quickly doesn't mean i'm better than you. So can you try to curb this jealousy. We all know what this thread is really about, i seem to be getting better looking men.

sykes · 05/04/2004 11:16

OF course, I forgot. Didn't you meet a real dish in Manchester? HAve you texted him lately?

kiwisbird · 05/04/2004 11:17

sykes this is cos you're using the predicitve text, took me ages to get my head around it,
polling has explained it well, any more questions let us know!

FF, are all your favourite obscenities programmed into your predictive texting?

Fairyfly · 05/04/2004 11:46

I only text obscenities, i've been arrested a couple of times.

No what you mean about the tongue thing Bron!

sykes · 05/04/2004 11:49

FF says she's going to input some stuff into my phone for me over Easter. Is this a good idea?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 05/04/2004 12:25

Absolutely. Very few people will recognise the word without a comprehansive dictionary.

popsycal · 05/04/2004 12:30

be careful that you dont type pmsl with predictive texting...
hey FF

pollingfold · 05/04/2004 20:40

skyes is all this stuff about texting just a rouse to cover you tracks that you really are "Ms Loos" and an expert texter, or do think now that Becks is fair game he's worth a text?
