Hi dd 8months old and has never been sick before. Last night at 12am she woke up and had been sick in cot. I changed her and she slept till 7.30am. Had bottle and b fast as normal with no more episodes of sickness. Went swimming this morning, then came home and she would not have 11am bottle, so gave her fruit for her lunch, cos I knew she would be hungry. Went to baby group at 1.30pm where she was crawling around having a lovely time and was pulling herself up onto someones car seat, and suddenly she vomited all over the floor and some went onto the car seat. I was mortified, burst into tears . I was soooo upset that this happened on someone elses property. The mam whose car seat is was, was really fine about it ( thats what she said anyway) Prob go home and tell husband about irresponsable mum at baby group!
If I had thought thyat my daughter was in any way infectious or was going to puke I would NEVER have taken her anywhere, and I was so upset at what they all thought of me. HV who was there told me not to worry about it and that all babies are sick, and it was obvious she was not infectious, but still I felt bad. Offered to buy new car seat/pay for it to be cleaned, but the mum said no. I will take her a bottle of wine next week if I dare show my face again ....

Don't worry - it happens.
ds puked in a swimming lesson and everyone had to get out while the pool was cleaned and disenfected. All subsequent lessons were also cancelled even though all mums with babies were sitting at side of pool in their swimming gear!
Embarrassing but hey ho it happens.
Chill.........

anniediv · 18/09/2006 19:26

lillymolly, my dd2 wet herself at the top of a slide, and another child went down the slide immediately after. The other mother had no spare clothes so had to go home, I offered to buy new outfit etc etc. I felt awful for weeks about it, really really sympathise

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 18/09/2006 20:55

Don't worry, it's a baby group, you count your blessings to come away without a spill of some sort. Carseats still work when the covers are removed for washing (my ds had mild reflux for the first 6months, I did a lot of washing).

WideWebWitch · 18/09/2006 21:00

Definitely not, it's normal, she's a baby! Don't worry!

aitch71 · 18/09/2006 21:01

don't worry lilymolly, when these things happen to people my over-riding feeling is one of relief that my DD wasn't the one doing the puking. plus, baby sick doesn't really smell that bad in my opinion and totally comes out after a wash...

aitch71 · 18/09/2006 21:03

sorry, posted that without finishing it... what i meant to say was that you'll probably have made everyone's day cos it was you and not them. apart from the carseat lady, of course, but she'll cope. and when her kid pukes on someone's stuff at some point, she'll be able to tell them how to get the stains out.

edam · 18/09/2006 21:03

Happens to everyone at some point, really don't worry!

WestCountryLass · 18/09/2006 21:15

It is horrible when this sort of thing happens but it does happen and most Mums know this and don't bat an eyelid. Car seat covers are washable, don't work yourself up into a lather over it, though bottle of wine is nice gesture

It could have been worse, my SIL was at a playgroup with her baby in a carseat and someone elses baby was sick over her carseat and her DS!

TinyGang · 18/09/2006 21:27

I'll just add another 'dont worry about it!'. I would be upset to think how upset you are tbh, if it'd been me.

Hope your little dd is ok. Hey, babies do it all the time. Anyone who's a mum knows this...honest!

moomooland · 18/09/2006 21:56

Don't worry, my dd used to projectile vomit all over the place (including on one occasion my friend's brand new sofa!). The other mum will be fine about it.

lucykate · 18/09/2006 22:00

no need to be embarressed, we've all been there. i was a first time mum with dd, at about 6 weeks old she projectile vomited what looked like a whole feed across my friends living room onto a pale pink carpet. should have named her carrie!.

cece · 18/09/2006 22:03

Calm down my dd had reflux, so was sick over everything and everyone at soem point during the first year of her life! Spent a lot of time on my knees cleaning peoples carpets, sofas, kitchen floors, baby gyms, clothes ..... I found everyone very understanding.....

koshka1984 · 18/09/2006 22:05

another dont worry. my ds has puked, peed and pooed all at the same time at a ladies house (grannys posh mate!) it soaked through the muslin under and sloshed out from the changing mat all over her carpet. cream.
luckily i dont like her so i laughed....even more lucky so did she

Tommy · 18/09/2006 22:07

I'm sure all the other mums were thinking "thank god it wasn't mine that did that" - knowing that next week or the week after, it will be

Wait til you all start potty training then there'll be all sorts everywhere!

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 22:07

Oh yes please don't worry

it was not like it was on someone's cashmere jumper or something - car seats are eminently washable and these things really do happen

A friend of mine told me she was potty training her son and had to take him to get some new shoes. He weed all over a pair of suede boots he was trying on

and she didn't buy them

Now she should be embarrassed

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 22:08

I was sick all over a friend once

now that was embarrassing, but he still speaks to me

lilymolly · 18/09/2006 22:15

Oh wow thanks for all the support, really do appreciate it girls xxx

The other mum involved is lovely, she has twins and I gave her a load of clothes for her dd last week and she was very appreciative, so I am sure she will forgive me.

Just a quick question- dd was a little bit sick again last night at 2am. She has had bottle this morning as normal, but I am due to go to baby gym today and also see a friend with 10 month old twins- do you think i should stay away??
I think that this sicknes is to do with her teeth by the way- dont think she has a bug as she is fine in herself.

cece · 19/09/2006 09:45

I would phone the mum and ask her if she minds still meeting. But it sounds like teething rather than a bag. If they have a sickness bug you aren't supposed to give them milk or dairy products btw. Not sure how that works with babeis not on solids!

Just to make you feel better DD was late for school today.... DS (recently toilet trained) weed 10 mins after getting dressed. All over carpet. Cleaned it up went to get clean clothes. Came back to discover poo on carpet and all over DS as he had triefd to clean it up himeself. Then as a I cleaned him up |I knelt in the wee bit of carpet, so had to change....

threebob · 19/09/2006 09:51

Dh was sick over me about 6 months after we were married. A bit of baby sick in a car seat seems quite tame by comparison.

cece · 19/09/2006 09:54

Oh and I once tried to go to a friends for lunch when DD was about 4 months old.

It took 8 changes of clothes as she kept bringing up more an dmore of her feed. We even made it to the car twice and she was sick all over car seat and seat in the car. Needles to say we were over an hour late and dd had a very strange outfit on as everything else was in the wash. LOL now but at the time

lemonaid · 19/09/2006 10:11

I have a friend who threw up over her now-DH just after he'd asked her to marry him. Far more embarassing than a carseat, in my opinion...
