Question of Utmost Importance

Dh and I have innies. Ds1 and Ds2 have outies. Which made me wonder...do outies turn into innies as you get older? Or is it once an innie always an innie, and ditto with outies?

Most kids these days seem to have outies but I am fairly sure mine's always been an innie (apart from when pregnant when I emerged as an outie, and it didn't feel right at all). Do they fasten off differently these days?

Of such stuff great philosophical questions are made.

LOOK I SAID I DIDNT WANT AN OUTIE. OKAYYYYYY

hercules · 03/04/2004 21:23

Can you get that thingy on ebay?

Chinchilla · 03/04/2004 21:25

Dh and I have innies, and ds has an outie (started off as an innie, but soon became an outie). I'm sure that it was something that the MW did. Perhaps Mears can confirm? My innie went very smoothly flat when I was pg...almost shiny!

hercules · 03/04/2004 21:25

Forget the gf, private/state, bottle/breast debates. What about an innie/outie debate?

Medical research has proved beyond doubt that if you have an innie you will have a higher Iq, less infections and live longer.

marthamoo · 03/04/2004 21:29

If you have an innie you will have better sex life, earn more and live longer.

If you have an innie then you will be beautiful and everyone will admire you and be jealous of your grace. You will be better at sports and the lesser people ie outies will throw rose petals on the ground in front of you when you walk.

Janh · 03/04/2004 22:30

Everybody in my house has an innie. I don't speak to people with outies.

StripyMouse · 03/04/2004 22:39

Both DH and I have innies (never got an outie when preg. - too fat!!) DD1 had a lovely tidy innie from birth. DD2 has a rather ugly outie. I was told by the mw that it was mainly to do with ahving a thicker cord and so doesn?t "go back" in and lie flat like most innies. It has flattened down and no longer looks like a tree stump, poor thing, but is definitely going to be a permanent outie.
I brush once or twice a day(would love to say twice, but have to be honest, half the time I just don?t get round to it twice) - 5 times grumpyzebra, that has to be bordering on the seriously clean, I am impressed, I think

StripyMouse · 03/04/2004 22:42

Oh no - am I an "outie-ist" too? (I hate the look of them) and will my daughter suffer such awful prejudice on the beach from now on? never wear a bikini from the shame and only date the ugly boys with similar outies, end up living a life of misery due to lack of self confidence.... Perhaps I aught to start some positive outie discrimination in our house to boost her morale?!!

CountessDracula · 03/04/2004 22:45

I was told that it is genetic. DH and I both have innies, so does dd. So do my parents and my brother.

Mine didn't even become an outie when pg

carla · 03/04/2004 22:48

I was told (by my midwife) that it's nothing to do with her. Just the way the cookie crumblies

Croak · 03/04/2004 22:54

lol Janh, you'd get on well with my dp, who, after an indepth chat about this (who says mumsnet is antisocial), has announced himself as an innie supremacist. I think he's very dissapointed in me as, before I was pregnant, I had a very reasonable (but not too deep) innie but now its turned into a flattie/possible outie. I'd assumed that this was only going to be a temporary phenomenom but Ds is 17 months now and the outie is still out and proud.
Has this happened to anyone else? I've wanted to ask my real life friends for ages but have never found a good time to drop the subject into conversation. Not a particular fan of the outie look but do find it preferable to the outrageously deep innies on chubby tummies that you think might go to the centre of the earth. Also innies are more hygenic
Oh and I brush my teeth twice a day. Have them attacked by ds two more times as well in an effort to encourage him to let me have a go at his.

God, Marthamoo, thought you were talking about bellybuttons, then read the rest of the thread! I sometimes completely lose the plot .....

carla · 03/04/2004 23:50

OOphs! Didn't read the complete thread! XX

StripyMouse · 03/04/2004 23:56

Croak -eek, cringe, I think you might have described my bottomless pit of a button...I am working on the diet thing and you have just spurred me on. No more chocolate tonight, black coffee only for me.

marthamoo · 03/04/2004 23:58

I can hide a small rubber duckie in my innie

OP posts:
Croak · 04/04/2004 00:16

If I can spur you on then I really ought to be able to spur myself on but have just had some mini eggs and a hot chocolate, doh. Sure that my delightful post baby outie is as a result of complete lack of exercise - muscles gave up the fight during pg and have felt no inclination to get back into action since, bit like the rest of me actually

innie...even during pg....ds and dp - innies...
teeth cleaning? - twice a day....
My q. Do you put dead matches back in the box or not? I don't, dp does....

Nome · 04/04/2004 09:03

innie... until it popped out during pg, now it's more of a flattie...what does that make me If I poke at it I can still turn it inside out...who said pregnancy changes your body?! ds and dh are both nice, neat innies.

Twice a day, once a lick and a promise and once really thoroughly.

And yes, I always put matches back in the box, mainly to drive dh mad

hercules · 04/04/2004 09:46

I'm so sorry Croak. Have you considered surgery? I hear they can do wonders nowadays...

kiwisbird · 04/04/2004 09:48

matches lol? what are they? some old fashioned thingy?
Haven't lit a match in donkeys years!

Janh · 04/04/2004 11:05

People in my house put dead matches back in the box, also empty icecream cartons back in the freezer, empty marg tubs in the bin WITH THE LIDS ON, empty cereal packets back in the cupboard, I could go on, AND they don't write them on the board and then moan because I haven't replaced them! What am I, psychic?

Blackduck · 04/04/2004 11:11

of course you are psychic - you are a mother aren't you?....good to know it isn't just my house
