Any LONDONERS about?

I need to fly to London and get to Earls Court.

Is Heathrow the best airport?

How long should I allow to get off flight and travel (presumably by underground) to Earls Court?

Thanks

Yes Earl's Court is easy to get to from Heathrow - you just get the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow. The tube journey takes about 45 minutes

Heathcliffscathy · 14/09/2006 23:12

definitely heathrow.

but tube not working to terminal 4 atm

allow 1 1/2 hours if handluggage more if not.

could be as little as an hour though.

by car in no traffic takes about 35 mins to earls court

by tube if you can get straight on it without faffing with replacement bus services from terminal 4 about 40 mins, maybe less.

Bluebear · 14/09/2006 23:13

Yes for ease of travel - use picadilly line from Heathrow to Earl's court (although at the moment there is no tube service to one (some?) of the terminals so you might need to do a bit by bus.
I can check that for you tomorrow.

Not sure on timing, will ask dh (he does heathrow run quite often) unless someone else answers you first!

Bluebear · 14/09/2006 23:13

Hmmm I see that they have!

Gillian76 · 14/09/2006 23:13

Oh I don't know about terminals, am just researching flights atm...

Will be flying from Glasgow with BA.

Even if you do have to faff about from Terminal 4, it's still going to be easier than coming into a different airport. Heathrow is by far the nearest.

Gillian76 · 14/09/2006 23:15

Would another airport be daft?

Need to be at Earls court for 10am on a Sat morning and the earliest flight gets in about 9

I'm an ex-Londoner, but

you can either fly into Heathrow and get the Piccadilly line to Earl's Court

or

fly into Gatwick, get the Gatwick Express (train) to Victoria and then Circle/District line to Earl's Court.

I don't think there's enough in it to make very much difference unless the flights are similar times and prices.

the gatwick express takes 30 mins it says here and then it would be 15-20 mins from leaving that train to arriving at Earl's Court I think (inc walking down to the tube platform and waiting for a tube train).

From Heathrow prob takes a similar amount of time IIRC.

Molesworth · 14/09/2006 23:16

That might be cutting it too fine, in fact it's very likely to be cutting it too fine ... I'd allow at least an hour and a half from getting off the plane to arriving in Earl's Court, especially if you're coming into terminal 4.

Sounds scary, CM! Am a country bumpkin really.

I would check out the flights into Gatwick to see if any land earlier than 9am. Gatwick is a lot further away from EC but if the train only takes 30 mins to get to Victoria then as CM says there may not be much in it timewise. Victoria to EC is quick and easy.

CarolinaMoon · 14/09/2006 23:23

an hour is too short I think.

How about a sleeper (\link{http://ojp1.nationalrail.co.uk/en/pj/jd2\here - option 1)?

CarolinaMoon · 14/09/2006 23:25

here, I mean

CarolinaMoon · 14/09/2006 23:31

if that link works for you - if not, it is a sleeper leaving Glasgow Central at 23:41 and arriving at Euston at 7.14 the next morning.

Then it's a simple matter of getting the tube to Earl's Court (about 30 mins - Victoria line to Green Park and change there for the Piccadilly line, or continue to Victoria and get a circle or district line train).

Molesworth · 14/09/2006 23:33

Sounds like a good option CM! I wonder what the cost difference is?

Gillian76 · 14/09/2006 23:36

Flight I can get for about £70. But if I have to stay overnight it will be much more expensive (obviously)

OP posts:

will be more than the flight I expect, but prob less than flight plus hotel.

you would need to ring Scotrail for the fare.
