I think I am hooked again. I gave up two years ago, and now am on about ten a day again due to stress. I can't even think about stoppign whiel this is all ongoing, but don't want this to be longterm.

My mum did- she had no probs (more than the usual nasty bits at the beginning) giving up again once stressful period passed.

just give it up again

it's just one more thing to get stressed about

put them down and go do something else; the longer you leave it the worse it will get

NOW

its the only thing that calms me down when I am feeling really really low. maybe i need an alternative.

deep breathing

after all, that's the effect that the smoking is having; slowing down your breathing

from this site -

"Deep breathing is a simple, but very effective, method of relaxation. It is a core component of everything from the "take ten deep breaths" approach to calming someone down, right through to yoga relaxation and Zen meditation. It works well in conjunction with other relaxation techniques such as Progressive Muscular Relaxation, relaxation imagery and meditation to reduce stress.

To use the technique, take a number of deep breaths and relax your body further with each breath. That's all there is to it!"

JUST GIVE IT UP NOW

I can't really remember, tbh, Kelly. Just that after a 3 year quit she had a very stressful time in her life and started smoking again. Once things had settled down a bit she was able to give up again.[proud emoticon] Totally see where cappuncino is coming from but if you're at the stage where getting past physical and mental cravings will take major will power, i know I'd leave it for a bit, personally. Not recommending that as a course of action but for me quitting took lots of effort and I couldn't have done it at a stage when I was under a lot of pressure.

mm, that is what I am thinking, sm. Don't need to be ratty about cravings on top of everythign else. Will try the deep breathing as a way of cutting down at least though, thanks cuppaccino.

it's hard to stop when you're stressed I agree

you just have to remember not to start again

I've been through some very stressful periods since I gave up - incredibly stressful - and I had to remember very hard not to start smoking again. You can get through stressful periods without starting again, and you have to remember that

Cappuccino · 12/09/2006 12:29

but I think 10 a day's not too bad, you could cut down one a day and be done in less than a fortnight

I think if dp was here I wouldn't be. I normally can talk to him when stressed, but because I am on my own, sometimes goign crazy, that is what made me turn to fags.
