Sort of a cross between health and food I suppose, wasn't sure where to put this.

Sorry in advance about this post ok but have been pondering this for ages.

My DD1 was born with constipation and has lived with it every day since so all this nappy buiness is very new to me.

DD2 is 8months old. Loves her food. Has a mixture of mashed up veg etc and some finger food such as peppers, fruit, toast etc etc

Her nappies are just unreal.
In the morning when I go into her they are so full they have 9 time sout of 10 leaked.

All nappies are always very very full and come out looking almost indentical to it all went in in the first place.

so - a) is this look normal. Should they come out almost exactly as they go in?
b) should they be firmer or is mush all good, as in healthy?
c) is there anything you can reccommend to stop nappies leaking overnight?

It's never too runny but certainly not firm, looks like proper baby puree, I could almost put it back in abowl and serve it back up!!!!!
Ewwwwwww, sorry, grossed myself out there!

sorry, sorry, orry, but seriuosly, I don't know about these things.

Is it all healthy and normal and other than a plastic pair of pant that go from under her arms to her knees how do you stop it leaking out from some corner or other overnight?

In the early days of solids it does tend to all come out looking pretty much as it went in. And it's not particularly firm.

It'll get less as-it-went-in over the next few months, and you'll get a greater range of consistencies although it's unlikely to be regularly unmushy for quite a while.

No advice on the leaks as DS very rarely poos overnight.

Twiglett · 09/09/2006 09:17

Firstly it sounds totally normal and healthy to me

what goes in is basically what comes out .. you want it to be puree consistency .. again that's normal for quite a while

as for nappies .. just one of those things .. as she grows and changes shape they'll fit better etc

Thank you for being able to read that graphic post and for replying. Much appreciated.

Just realised there is a sec tion esp for nappies! Shoiuld have posted there.

Anyway, thanks. Good to know it's normal.

She very rarely doesn't poo overnight. It's a shock to find only a wet nappy.

She couldn't be more opposite to DD1 in every single way! It's mad. Feel like a first time mum in so many ways.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I've been toying with posting a similar question myself

My DD is 9 months old and while we do get the occasional 'grown up' poo, most of the time her nappies are full of soft mush and quite often it's creeping up her back (yeuch). They have been getting better over time (I know what you mean about serving it back up...) but I've been wondering if I should be concerned.

So, in answer to your q's:
a) think it gets better as their digestion develops and improves
b) no idea!
c) buy bigger nappies???

Anyone else?

alphonsa · 09/09/2006 09:20

Ooops.. crossed posts. Very slow at this typing business...

Thanks for the 'it's normal' comments - nice to be reassured.

LOL alponsa, what are we like!

After having a dd that goes once a week and they are like tennis balls, and just as hard, this is so weird to me. I'd rather say then spend another month thinking 'hmmmm is she digesting her food ok, is this ok' etc.
Obnly on mumsnet can you ask these questions and get the answers you need and so quickly.
Love it here

My dd is a year old and still isn't fully digesting everything, and this is perfectly normal. AS for the night time poo, my DD had this for a while at the age of about 7 months, and it was really annoying. I suspect that it was due to giving her certain food before her digestive system could deal with it, in her case baby cereal.

hub2dee · 09/09/2006 09:37

Hi TC - the consistency sounds bag on - purée / mush. It'll tend to something harder as she gets older (IME).

Re: leaks - have you tried other brands of nappy ? You're using dispies right ? Pampers were crud for us, often leaking, but Tesco Active Fit were fine.

hth

ps - if it's a real leak problem could a cloth nappy's outer wrap maybe save the day ?

Scoobydooooo · 09/09/2006 09:40

Oh i am so glad you posted this thomcat

My dd is 8 months & she is exactly the same, even with the leaking out, it drives me mad because it's very hard to change a nappy that has leaked everywhere yuuuuk.

I to am not sure if it's normal but reading this i think it must be, can i also ask how many times a day do your dd's do a poo?

Scoobydooooo · 09/09/2006 09:42

Funny you say that about the nappies i was using pampers & just got some pampers active delivered with my shopping last night & she wore one to bed & no leak this morning ......

hub2dee · 09/09/2006 09:44

Scooby - do you mean you just got some Tesco Active or some Pampers Active ?

Scoobydooooo · 09/09/2006 09:53

Sorry i mean pampers active i have used tesco but not sure if they were active? they were in a purple pack? I have just noticed that i got a size up from the usual so maybe this has helped?

Thomcat · 09/09/2006 12:26

Thanks hub, ggod tips, will try. Just bout about 95 bleedin Pampers but Tesco next on the list.
And nice idea re cloth nappy liner for night.
Bored of washing sheets and having stained vest and babygrows now.n
Scobby - hmmm, how ofter.... well... I reckon at least 3 nappies a day, very very full nappies a day. Up the back, round the sides, everywhere.

Isn't it funny - I was feeling liek a freak for asking this and loads of us have been pondering on the subject!

Highly recommen Tesco nappies - great stuff.

hub2dee · 09/09/2006 14:19

Would recommend you pick up a small pack of Tesco. If they cure the leaks, take the pampers back and say they're cack.

LOL.

Littlefish · 09/09/2006 14:30

My dd is 21 months and it's only been in the last month that her poo started looking like "proper" poo. It's always been the sort of thick pureee mush you mention TC. (yuck, that sounds disgusting!)
