OK - this is sort of a Christmas thread - but not strictly - as these type of gifts can be bought throughout the year - not specifically for Christmas.

I know of oxfamunwrapped

and \link{ www.greatgifts.org/GiftSelection/home.aspx\this worldvision} version

for buying gifts that are ethical and charitable - are there any others out there (for the UK).

I want to order some Catalogues from some of them - some for DH and I use to - but also some to show friends and some for church - as the more I think about them the more passionate I feel about it.

Are there any others?

Think I'm feeling more passionaite since I recieved a letter from the charity which we sponsor a child through saying that after supporting her through her first 5yrs at school her parents are now in a position to be able to support her without outside help. It just feels SO amazing that for such a minial effort on our part this little girl has been able to go to school and get a proper primary education (not to mention clothes, food etc etc) . Had we (or anyone else) been sponsoring her she would have been 5yrs 'behind' with school. Feels quite sad in one respect, but really good in another - we're now just waiting to hear about our next child.

We have received animal adoptions as presents
WWF here
NOt suew if this is exactly what you're looking for, but I know a lot of kids enjoy this as you get a pack and lots of information about the animal.

On the subject of ethical Xmas, does anyone have any links to recycled giftwrap or Xmas cards?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 09/09/2006 00:03

thinking of getting my dad a goat for Christmas - it's been a long standing joke between him and DH that DH owes my dad a goat for my "bride price" (they still pay bride price in Zimbabwe - but of course DH got out of it because I'm white, and English). My dad just joked to him "Just get me a goat".........we keep telling it's been lost in shipping LOL.

hmmm - just broached the idea with DH and he didn't seem very impressed - he's more of a 'must be able to touch and hold' type with presents........but I'll work him round -

Not only can you send your MIL a cow but they do a 'Gift of a Rat'. Ideal for not so D, H's.
