Do the new car seat law makers really think that kids only reach 135cm at age 12 or thereabouts? My dd was that height before she was 8 and at 9.3 is about 142cm. I know she's quite tall but doesn't seem that odd!
So how tall are your 12 year olds or how old were they at 135cm if you know.
Just interested.

Does anyone know off hand the height for going from booster seat to cushion?

mumfor1standfinaltime · 07/09/2006 16:15

Bozza this is what I was thinking of. But it says age 3 plus??
I suppose they are quite upright and no good for sleeping. Will have to have a'trying on' session in halfords!

Bozza · 07/09/2006 16:44

I think they have some that are from 9 months because of having the 5-point harness. But definitely think about sleep when you try him in them if he does sleep quite a lot in the car.

Bozza · 07/09/2006 16:46

this was the sort of thing I was thinking of

LIZS · 07/09/2006 16:48

Bozza I think they recommend a backless one from 22kg minimum iirc, and a booster seat with a back from 15kg(but preferably 18kg according to safety experts).

Mumfor1standfinaltime - we've just got dd a Britax Evolva 123 Ultra which is a booster with a removable 5 point harness. She's the other end of the spectrum , just 5 but not yet 14kg and only just over a metre tall ! It is fine for her age but the recline has to be determined before you fix the seat in which is not a job you'd want to have to do each time and it doesn't suit all cars.

Tawny75 a booster also raises their hips so the lap belt goes across the pelvis not the tummy which a low shoulder belt alone wouldn't do.

DS1 is 8 and 138cm tall. He's not in a booster seat as I can't fit three across my back seat and still get to the seatbelts to do them up! Does anyone know where you can get 'armless' boosters from, as I think they'd be narrower and I'd rather DS1 was sitting higher up than he does.

LIZS · 07/09/2006 17:04

this any good ? Serenity ? Doesn't say how narrow though .

mumfor1standfinaltime · 07/09/2006 17:10

Lizs, crikey it's weird how different our childrens heights are!
I am going to give ds his tea then trot off to halfords.
I am using a britax one at the moment but have no idea of the model as it was given to me by a friend, its only a couple of years old and she said it's suitable upto age 3.
I cant see ds being in it past age 2.

serenity · 07/09/2006 17:16

That's the sort of thing, thanks. They didn't have them in our local Halfords last time I checked. Maybe I'll try a bigger branch, or ring and try to find the dimensions. Thanks again.

My daughter turned 7 last week and she’s 135cm
