Gross, gross, gross...neighbour's cat has killed a pigeon and left it in my garden [vom emoticon]

I heard some flapping and screeching, looked out and saw Jasper (old but evil and v wily cat from the house at the back of us)attacking a pigeon. I scared him away and it sat there on the patio for a while "stunned" in Pythonesque manner then hopped over to the grass, leaving a pool of blood on the patio (boak) , poor thing and keeled over. It's already covered in flies and I know the longer I leave it the worse it will be. I tried bribing DS1 (16) to deal with it (he's usually fine with small birds and mice etc) but he's not up for it at all so I guess it's down to me. Can see Jasper's owner pottering around in her pigeon free garden....harrumph. How can I pick it up and get it in a bag without losing my lunch?

I bet it has gone before tomorrow morning. That cat will come back for it later. Or someone elses cat will nab it and take it home as a trophy !

Oh, do you think so...wouldn't that be great? I've sat here for the last hour trying to find very important thngs that need doing on the internet (hmmm!)and haven'tt had the guts to go out and remove it yet. I did wonder if one of our passing foxes might take it tonight but if they don't then it's going to be even more hideous tomorrow...bleurgh!

Take a big thick black bin bag, put your hands inside it and pick the dead pigeon up as if you were dealing with fox poo iyswim. Try not to look at it too hard or breathe near it if you are squeamish. The sooner you deal with it the better. It'll only get worse if you leave it - cats and foxes are seldom tidy.

Misspiggy · 06/09/2006 17:37

I'm not sure if I could manage to "feel" it throught the bag IYSWIM...God, I'm such a wuss! I think I might try use a shovel to get it into a bin bag. It wouldn't be so bad if pigeons weren't so big...I'm off out to do it now - wish me luck.

Good luck!

Aww...thanks! It's all done now with lots of girly squealing from me when it fell off the shovel(what a saddo!). Couldn't believe it - when I went out of the back door our 2 cats had a mouse cornered so I had to manhandle (cathandle??)them back indoors to give it a chance to get away otherwise I'd have had another body to dispose of. Don't know what's going on with all the local cats - the red mist seems to have descended on them! Think I'll keep our 2 in tonight.

um not wanting to sound gross but if you are putting it out with the rubbish put some bleach in the bag, or tomorrow you will have to pick it (or bits of it)
up again.

Misspiggy · 06/09/2006 20:14

Oh no, I didn't do that and I'm not sure I could face opening up the bags again. Sorry to sound thick but why bleach IN the bag? I've double bagged it and the binmen come on Friday so I'm hoping it won't reek too badly before then.

Cats and foxes will smell the bird and rip the bag (same as with chicken left overs). They do not like bleach and so will leave bag alone.

Misspiggy · 06/09/2006 20:54

Oh I see! Definitely got my thick head on tonight. The bag is in the wheelie bin so hopefully it should be ok but thanks for the tip.

Yes, it should be fine in the wheeliebin .

It would be worse if a pigeon had killed the neighbour's cat and left it in your garden....
