"Pattern Impressed Concrete" Driveways

Yes, I know it's dull but does anyone have one of these and would you recommend it?

We have naff, weed ridden crazy paving and it's horrible. I would like block paving but this still gets weeds and I've also seen drives that have sunk in ruts where you drive the car over the same bit all the time. I've also see these PIC drives which look good and, being mostly gap free, won't need weeding to the same extent.

we were discussing this last ngiht, i havent seen any pics of them though.....hopefully someone will answer....

liath · 04/09/2006 16:43

Yes, we have one. We decided against block paving for your reasons, weeds etc.

The cost was slightly less than block and it took a couple of days to go down. We got "roman cobble" imprints. It doesn't look like concrete until you're close up but does look a wee bit stark.

Do you need any other info? I could take a digital picture if you like and once DH is back from work I can find out more on costs and the company who did it.

This lot have done some round our way.

That would be great, Liath.

Our driveway currently looks like it should have a rusty car propped up on axel blocks on it!!

OP posts:
liath · 04/09/2006 16:46

I think we used them - it's on the favourites tool bar anyway!!

liath · 04/09/2006 16:48

Our definitely looks better than it did - mind you our house is hideously ugly so even a new drive didn't make a great deal of difference overall .

If you happen to live in Edinburgh you could take a look.

SoupDragon · 04/09/2006 17:00

No, South London unfortunately Up until last week our house had the obligatory peeling paint to go with the imaginary rusty car We'll get there eventually!!

We have block paving, loads of it on the drive, parking area, side return and back patio. It is an UNHOLY NIGHTMARE for weeds . Should've bought shares in Roundup.

Kaloo20 · 04/09/2006 17:25

I just knew it was you Soupy when I saw this thread

SoupDragon · 04/09/2006 17:35

I start all the exciting threads, me

and don't tell me you're not interested in the replies, Kaloo

Right, NdP, That's block paving scrubbed of for good. PIC looking promising - I'll have to pluck up the courage and knock on the doors of the houses that have had it near me and ask their opinions/recommendations.

impressive driveways certainly didn't have an impressive website did they !

and the photos of the jobs they had done was just awful!

On the traditional paving site the Deep Jointed Cobble is nice in the gray

  • what were the people thinking that had the Octagon Tile (click to see bigger picture)
NotActuallyAMum · 05/09/2006 12:51

We've got ours done. It looks great...but is hard to keep clean. It's a cobbled effect and dirt/debris gets in the 'lower' bits iyswim. And when it's wet it's very slippery - especially in high heels!!

Would I have it done again? Yes I probably would because, despite the above, I do think it's less hassle than crazy or block paving and it looks much nicer

SoupDragon · 05/09/2006 12:56

I'm hoping it's because they've spent all their time doing driveways, not websites

I think I'm going fr it. Just a matter of which company and which style.

lol at soupy and her thread

lisasimpson · 05/09/2006 12:56

how bizarre, me and my dh were only talking about this the other day. We spoke to someone independently who said that although cheaper, it does need to be re-treated every few years (I think the colour fades or something) and if you have any chips it's difficult to fix unlike traditional paving where you can just replace the individual slab.

SoupDragon · 05/09/2006 12:58

Looking at the Traditional Paving site I'm going for Pacific Boardwalk in Lawn Green. Snort!

OP posts:
Kaloo20 · 05/09/2006 13:11

lol - I wanted to comment on the beautiful broadwalk option. Didn't notice it came in lawn green

Some do look very shiny, either that or it rains immediately every job is finished. I hope they come with a matt finish option.

liath · 05/09/2006 13:13

was going to take a pic of mine today for you (have nothing better to do with my sad life ) but it's chucking it down.

SoupDragon · 05/09/2006 13:19

I'm assuming that you can have any pattern in any colour. Although why you would want any of them in Lawn Green escapes me.

I think only 1 of those "before" shots looks as bad as my drive at the moment.

Get out there with your camera, Liath you wimp

OP posts:
Kaloo20 · 05/09/2006 13:26

I could do a before picture too, but don't hold your breathe for the after shot !

SoupDragon · 05/09/2006 13:27

E£specially if you don't do any the work you're being paid to do...

OP posts:
liath · 05/09/2006 13:27

I daren't - it's in lawn green - you'll only laugh .
