He will be 3 on Thursday!

What were the real favourites with some decent play value?

Ds1 was 3 in April - he got a play kitchen with loads of accessories and play food - that's still being played with lots.

xBodomx · 03/09/2006 21:39

Cake. Party. Lip balm. Sprinkles. Hot oil. Honey. Bubble bath. Hot candles.

ocd · 03/09/2006 21:42

and yes to track altho ds3 is the only boy int he world who deosnt seem to like it.

DumbledoresGirl · 03/09/2006 21:42

My ds3 was 3 in February and liked best a little wheelbarrow from ELC and a pirates dressing up outfit (although he hasn't worn it for ages now). We recently bought our very first piece of Playmobil (after 4 children!) - he chose a tractor set as he still had some brirthday money to spend. It was £20 which is expensive, but I was impressed with the quality of the product. I wonder why we haven't bought it before? Ds3 likes tractors and has bought a little one since!

Ds1 when he was 3 had a wooden railway set. That has been played with frequently for 7 years now so was well worth buying. I forget what ds2 had.

Tommy · 03/09/2006 21:45

we bought DS2 a dolls house from ToysRus (last week) - he loves it (and it's not girly at all - just plain wood - £20 and all the rooms are a fiver)

ocd · 03/09/2006 21:45

yes ds3 woudl have loved that but i cant get any mor e new crap!

tortoiseshell · 03/09/2006 21:48

We got ds an Ikea wooden cooker for his 3rd birthday, but tbh, dd has played with it a whole lot more than him. Playmobil is good, and bizarrely my ds1 really likes Sylvanian families (dd's). Otherwise, a bike is good value, or a trampoline (little one with a handle).

Alibaldi · 03/09/2006 21:50

Remote control car he loves it - makes loads of noise. In fact the one pressie he plays the most with is a wooden marble run called Quadrilla - bought for him and big brother. Not cheap but hours and hours of fun building your own marble runs.

ocd · 03/09/2006 21:51

yes hence the fifi house tortoisehell

gemmiegoatlegs · 03/09/2006 21:51

We bought playmobil too. We bought a big massive pirate ship thing with loads of spiky swords and things that we're always standing on and cursing and trying to keep out of the baby's mouth. We now keep it on a high shelf and get it down for occasional play sessions. He did however get two talking Scoops (BTB mad) so we returned one and he chose a slightly dearer Playmobil helicopter which he loves and plays with ever day. I second the remark that they are quality toys but advise against buying sets withtoo many fiddly bits.

Littlemissbusy · 03/09/2006 21:55

Have you tried www.idealpresent.co.uk? They don't sell anything - they just give advice on what to buy and where - have a look at the what's hot section - you can put in boy aged 3, and it'll give you some quick ideas, or you can do a more thorough search. All for free!

domestickler · 03/09/2006 22:01

oooo 'eck. Im feeling like he is far too old for his age - he seems well past play kitchens etc. Wonder if thats because of having an older sister and a childminder Mum so there has always been various older toys available to him.

He is obsessed with power rangers, pirates and spiderman but want something with real play value.

Wooden train set.

Play kitchen.

CD player and CD books.

This is Christmas as well as I can't remember which was which!

curlew · 04/09/2006 06:37

My ds, now 5 has always - well, since 18 months or so- loved hotwheels cars and track. We now have enough track for him and his dad to make a two level track all round the living room. Huge fun for all! And very useful - there are thousands of cars available and most only cost 99p so very useful for little treats and bribes!
Marble runs are also very popular.
Swingball football if you've got a garden.
My brother often gives those huge gym balls - he gave my two one as a joint present any they've played with it loads.
Bubble machines are always fun too.

ocd · 04/09/2006 09:36

DS my ds3 was wwell beyond hsi age but you woudl be suipried what they play ith at nursery.
he also loves ninja turtle stuff - what abotu some aciton men?
