Come on who remembers Anne Elk from Monty Python. I am convinced Posey is she in disguise with all her theories

Janh · 25/03/2004 20:38

ahem

Janh · 25/03/2004 20:39

How old are you anyway, missus? I remember it all, but I was 18 when it started...you must have been a babe in arms practically!

CountessDracula · 25/03/2004 21:40

1966 I was born. But my Dad was big python fan as was I!

Can't believe no-one else remembers.

Oh, I remember! It was John Cleese in a long brown wig IIRC, and he spoke like "May theeeery is...." Excellent, glad it wasn't just me and my brother driving our parents mad then! We also used to ring a little bell and say in a singsong voice "Goooodniiiight ding ding ding". I think that was Monty Python too, but not sure. Happy days

I was at college so our favourite catchphrase was wink, wink, nudge, nudge, what's it like? (And "things break, you know. That's a nice tank - be sad if it broke." )

You remember the Spanish Inquisition one? At the end the inquisitioners had been trying depserately to get there - on and off buses etc - they burst in, M Palin said "nobody expects the spanish inquisition!", the lights went out and we heard a plaintive little "oh bugger!"

There was one of those Sunday night intellectual type progs on fairly soon afterwards which covered that, and apparently they had a complaint (just the one?) about that word; M Palin said it was a Scottish woman, who rang up to complain, she told the operator she couldn't possibly say the word but would spell it, and it went "B-U-G-A-R". Cue wild laughter all round. Inocent days!

Nice one, CD. Posey is definitely Anne Elk.

Bringing back lots of fun memories. Remember the Philosopher's VI football team? The Icelandic Honey Week? The Society for Putting Things on top of Other Things? Blackmail? The dodgy phrase book sketch? We still go around saying 'want to come back to my place, bouncy bouncy?'

Janh - knowing MP scripts backwards is an entry requirement for many science courses nowadays you know

Always was, SP! We have a special fondness for the knights who say Ni in our house, closely followed by the Upper Class Twit of the Year race.
You might all be interested to know that in the intent of demystifying England to our large number of foreign students I have all of Monty Python (films and TV series) and all of Blackadder on my library shelves and they are incredibly popular. Nothing like the sound of the stacks ringing with Scandinavian/French/Iberian guffaws...

Posey · 26/03/2004 20:19

I can't believe I'm named in a subject line
I feel very honoured CD!

I really don't remember Anne Elk I'm afraid. Not a great watcher of MP except the films. I will watch The Life of Brian over and over again, and adored Mr Creasote (sp?) in The Meaning of Life; "Just one more waffer-thin mint?"

Posey · 26/03/2004 20:58

On UKTVpeople tonight (ch 566) at 10:40 is IT's...The Monty Python Story.
Will try and watch, see if Anne Elk makes an appearance.

Janh · 26/03/2004 21:29

MONTY PYTHON'S MEANING OF LIFE IS ON SKY ONE NOW!!!
