Another evening is slipping away, dh now gone to bed, I am left very frustrated, despondent and generally cross. Can't find a house we can afford or that is in the right area and fulfils our criteria, desperate to move, have spent another evening searching countless websites.... AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

Just needed to rant slightly.... anyone else been through this? and come out the other side?

We had same problem - DH lived in Eton and we looked everywhere around the nicer 'shires', concluded only place with an easy commute to London and affordable housing (with land - one of our criteria too) is mid-Kent. We live near Faversham which is 65 mins from Cannon St or Victoria. try struttandparker dot com for idea of what is around. Only concern here is schooling - we have grammer schools here so schooling is great if your child passes 11+ otherwise it's pretty poor and private is best route. Other than that we love the place - very close to beach at Whitstable, no light pollution, daily farmers market in Canterbury, etc etc. But I grew up in Kent so am gently biased...
