Follwing on from the thraed about how often your dh phones his mother.......

DH & I have differnt opinions on this and decided to see what mner's think......

If you live 5 mins from your parents (ie My inlaws) how often do you go and visit them...???
ATM dh & I visit them EVERY week WITHOUT fail, no matter what we have done during the weekend we still see them on a sat/sun. If we miss it due to weekend away or a hol then time is made to see them before/after the hol..

DH is due to work a few sats this month and so we don't spend our sunday (dh's only day off) with others instead of our own little family ( dd and unborn child) I found myself suggesting they come on the sat while he works .
BTW dh works from 5.30am-7/8pm. (inc travelling time)

Come on..opinions...please

My parents and in-laws live further away but I can give you my sibings habits. One sister goes round with kids when her dh is at work a couple of times a week. Brother goes round about once a week with wife and kids unless wife is at work. Not a religious once a week though. T'other sister only goes when she's invited, never just drops in, so mostly only sees them once every 6 weeks - often coinciding with kids school holidays. My parents don't drop in to siblingsa houses, always wait to be invited, which often causes a bit of resentment as older sister especially feels they don't give a damn.
If we lived near inlaws dh would probably take our kids once a week for a couple of hours but tbh I wouldn't often go

We live 5 mins from ILS and see them once a week, sometimes twice, but they are nice and help lots with DS.

My mum lives 35 mins away and try to get once a fortnight, if not I start feeling bad and at least ring and arrange something soon.

We live 10mins from DH's parents and I usually take the kids over for a cuppa on MIL's day off and leave one to play for the day. It absolutely makes her week, having only 2 grandchildren, and the kids enjoy the one-to-one attention. DH sometimes pops in at a weekend with a child too. We try to avoid his dad because he's extremely tedious LOL but the kids adore him.

I live 5mins from inlaws and dh sees them everyday - just pops in to check they are ok on the way home from work (They have health probs)
Once a week, he brings them back home so they can see ds and drops them back home.
We go over about once a week with ds.

we live 5 mins from my parents and probably see them once a week but often only for about 10 minutes, e.g. they'll pop in on their way to/from somewhere to see dd. Once a month (ish) we see them for longer e.g. Sunday lunch but it's not set in stone. We'll probably see them a bit more when I go back to work as my dad has offered to pick dd up early from nursery occasionally as he works from home. I din't think dh sees it as a problem but that's because it fits round us mostly rather than us changing our plans to go and see them.

MIL lives about 20 miles away. DH or I see his mum once a month perhaps. Kids get bored there I'm afraid as she has a small flat and no garden. She doesn't drive so can't get over to see us very easily. I see my parents once a week because they look after DS#2 every wednesday. They live about 15 miles away and still drive.
