Am I shocking?

I was replying to a thread started by a teen mum the other day. I said that all had worked out well for me and wished her luck and explained my own circumstances, which are I had my eldest ds when I was 15. I am 25 today and am pg with number 5.
Someone replied with this and asked if I was catholic.!
I am used to the digs like "haven't you worked out whats causing it yet" and "Haven't you got a telly?" but have to say I found this a bit insulting and just thought Iwould see if I really am that shocking! I know I will get honesty on here!

It depends on what makes you happy doesn't it??
If it does,then great.

tbh I think you'd get judged if you were a single parent with multiple fathers, surviving just on benefits.

AnguaVonUberwald · 31/08/2006 10:15

I am the eldest of five children and when we were young, my mother was also often asked if she was catholic.
Once when we were older and on holiday, she was asked if she was running a holiday camp.

Noone elses beeswax really - you do what is best for you. First at 15 was probably not ideal (or planned?!) but not that shocking in this day and age.
You obviously took to motherhood well if you are happy to be having number 5 now

If I use then that's not 'shock' - it's open-mouthed admiration. I wasn't ready to have kids at your age, but having had them much later, I wish I'd done it all sooner (not really answering your question here am I? sorry). I think you're amazing rather than shocking, if that makes sense.

Hi Caz,

I had a friend at school who was one of 11, he was always being asked this question - was it tongue in cheek?

I can't imagine having had 5 children by 25 (I was still acting the fool then and had my first at 32), but I am not particularly shocked that you have chosen to. Assuming that you're happy, I think good for you. Don't let it worry you.

BTW, happy birthday!

It is pretty shocking/surprising to see a 25 year old with 5 children though..especially is one of them is 10.

This is not a criticism.

FoghornLeghorn · 31/08/2006 10:28

My best friend is 24 and has 3 children 7,3 and 1 and she gets these sort of knowing looks all the time.
I personally don't think you are shocking, although coping with 5 kids is amazing

I would find it shocking, but more of surprise than "discraceful in a Daily Mail way" iyswim

fairyfly · 31/08/2006 10:33

I think the way you interpret the face maybe more to do with the way you worry others will see you and your own insecurities.

It could be read into in many ways and you chose the negative one.

I used to do that when i became a single mother, i don't much care anymore as i don't have to justify myself to anyone.
