Mooncup - HELP!

(Oh God, this is embarrasing )

I can't get my Mooncup out! It's only my first day using it, and I managed to get it out once already, but I can't get it out now. What on earth do I do?

Relax! Did you leave the tail on? The key is to break the seal round the top. Lock your bathroom door and calm down, take some deep breaths. Reach up with your longest finger and feel round the rim then push past so you've broken the sela. Then with your other hand pull gently on the tail, making sure you are still breaking the seal. If you can't do it standing up, try lying down, or with one foot on the loo seat.

marthamoo · 21/03/2004 19:02

prettycandles, you OK? Have visions of you writhing round on bathroom floor

JJ · 21/03/2004 19:07

Yes, relax. Hope you've gotten it out!

Reach up, like MM says and smoosh it a little so the seal breaks. Kind of squeeze (finger and thumb) and twist and pull down.

You can't really just pull it out like a tampon. And, yes, it does take a bit of getting used to! A bit urghish, but so damned convenient and easy (once you get used to it).

Jimjams · 21/03/2004 19:24

I found bearing down really helps- makes it much easier. 2 month is MUCH easier than the first....

prettycandles · 21/03/2004 19:54

The trouble is that I can't reach the top to break the seal. I managed previously, but since then I've trimmed the stalk a bit (left at least 1cm on, and I can get hold of that) and whenever I try to catch hold of the base, I pinch myself.

I haven't tried lying down - afraid of the consequences! - but needs must, so now that the children are safely locked up in their beds, I'll go lock myself up in the bathroom and try it that way.

DH just peered over my shoulder and said 'Oh, that's why you've been walking like John Wayne all afternoon. Are you going to do the dishes?'

Try squatting.. both feet flat, bottom down, hand out front to balance if needed. Lean forward a bit and push as Jimjams said. This is getting all porno, sorry. You'll get it out, don't worry.

prettycandles · 21/03/2004 20:43

Success!

Thanks for your help! I was already working out how I would phrase my 'complaint' at A&E.

I'm in two minds about it now. Definitely leaving it until next month before I even think about trying it again.

Yeah, leave it a bit (you'll probably be a bit sore anyway). Now you've managed it I have to come out of the closet here and say I never got on with mine...I sent it back (yes, I really did )

Clarinet60 · 23/03/2004 14:28

Oh.......... I was wondering whether to get one of these or not. Are they uncomfortable?

marthamoo · 23/03/2004 14:30

There was a thread on here where lots of people raved about them (bloss springs immediately to mind ) and I liked the idea in theory but I just couldn't get on with it. But you can try for 3 months then send it back and get a refund so nothing to lose by giving it a whirl, droile.

prettycandles · 23/03/2004 14:48

Please don't let my cack-handed experience put you off trying! I'm just not - how shall I put it? - one of those women who knows what her cervix feels like, and getting it out was tricky. I didn't find it uncomfortable once it was in (and trimmed to fit well), and I'm fairly sure I'll be trying again next month, as it feels so much cleaner than towels or tampons.

I found (am currently pregnant) that bearing down before trying to get it out helped to get it in a more accessible position. So after doing a poo is a good time! Too much information I know.

I wouldn't go near it post-delivery! To be honest, I wouldn't let anything go near my bits for several months post-delivery ! I should think that once you're comfortable having sex after the birth, then that would be a good time to start using a moooncup.

OP posts:
Bozza · 23/03/2004 15:27

Agreew with prettycandles. Don't think it would be advisable post-delivery and certainly not if you hadn't used one previously and developed your technique. There are two sizes for those who have given birth vaginally and those who haven't....

Blu · 23/03/2004 15:51

Ummm, is anyone who sends for one now likely to get Marthamoos returned one, second hand? Do they just repackage them and send them out again? (nothing personal M'moo!)

Sorry to disappoint re the post-partum bleeding - agree that for me it was really horrible. But would be worried about infection (had episiotomy) and also increased soreness to a very bruised and swollen area (in my case).

Definitely true about the two sizes. Agree about the ego damage but the first time I used a tampon after having DS it fell out (and it was a super). Didn't do a lot for my self-esteem.

marthamoo · 23/03/2004 20:14

I'm really insulted that you wouldn't want my second hand mooncup!

I cut the tail off as instructed though so they couldn't pass it off as new and unused!

prettycandles · 23/03/2004 21:04

They say on the website that they puncture returns and use them as demo models. I think that the 3 month return is fairly flexible, they ask you to try it for 3 of your cycles so they probably don't just accept returns within 3 calendar months of purchase.
