Following on from today's depressed mum thread I thought it would be nice to get some ideas of things that are free and don't cost much.

The ideas I posted on that thread are:
Get a friend to do you hair for you (wash and dry it)
Perhaps a clothes swap with another friend
Walks in the park
Musuems
Country walks
Feeding the ducks
Friends round for the evening (bring your own bottle)
That 70s thing where you have a dinner party and people all bring one course each
Using old tins of paint for a face lift for your flat
Doing some 'DIY' art to brighten up the walls

I know you wonderful mumsnetters will have lots of other great ideas!

Join a library and get a load of books out (depends on your having time to read them though!)
Have a long bath while you're reading them
Sex
Visiting art galleries
mumsnetting (if your internet connection is paid for/anytime)
Cooking - if you enjoy it, obviously

jmg · 19/03/2004 21:29

Oh WWW - I love the watching an old film idea! My sister and I used to watch the old black and white films when we were teenagers on a saturday afternoon on BBC2. Used to love it!

phoning up or writing to long lost friends?
gardening?

There's a urban community farm near us which is free to the public...
Our local surestart runs loads of free activities and courses (but they vary from area to area - and that's if you've got one!)

if u wanna do something with the kids and are 'arty and crafty' then we collect pinecones, leaves etc and paint them into pretty pictures. makes me feel all mumsy and good, and who cares about the paint on the floor.

we:
go fishing with a bait catcher - stale bread and a £3 catcher (so initial outlay)
bike riding in botanic gardens
for heaps of picnics (need to eat anyway)
swimming (we are lucky our local pool is free)
kite flying
gardening DS (4) prunes my roses and weeds
nature walks with a book to see what we can spot
ball games in the park

taht's it for now, will have more of a think....
