If you were visiting a baby fair...

... would you prefer to chat to someone at a trestle table or sitting at a coffee table with an extra chair for you to sit at?
I'm doing a baby show in October (I'm a life coach working with mothers) and have been offered either. Don't want to put people off by making them feel I'm doing a hard sell - equally don't want to be too formal.
Has anyone got any thoughts?

not sure... one one hand, it's nice to sit down like that but it might seem a little "full on" iyswim. I think I'd prefer to look at stuff on a trestle table and then decide if I'd like to talk more or ask questions.

I guess the ideal is half a trestle table and a couple of chairs!!

trestle table. not likel;y to chat in depth at a baby fair anyway because of passers by and having children with me but would want to look at leaflets and have a cursory chat

Thanks, SD, that's kind of what I was thinking. I think in that situation, I might be afraid I was going to be made to sign on the dotted line if I actually sat down with someone... (and that's really not my style )

i agree with the previous posters - i'd prefer to look at information first before deciding whether to ask questions and the trestle table layout is easier for that. i like Soupdragon's suggesion of a couple of chairs to the side if you fancy sitting and reading in more depth or ask a few questions.

also, if i saw people already sitting down at the coffee table chatting to you i'd be more likely to pass on by unless i was specifically interested in your stall - maybe you'd get more browsers if the information is laid out on a trestle table?

Thanks all of you - will go for the trestle table, and try and get some chairs added. Thinking about it, will need the table for leaflets, mailing list, etc.
Maybe see some of you there - Little Ones Fair near Manchester in October.

Following on from this - someone just gave me a brilliant piece of advice, which was to have a load of stuff on the table for kids to amuse themselves with so I can chat to their mums for more than 5 seconds (crayons, paper, duplo - that sort of thing).

Thought this might be helpful to anyone else doing a trade fair .

trestle table definitely

coffee tables are too low to enable people to get comfy unless good friends

Flamey · 25/08/2006 16:15

Agree with SD - I think I'd balk at the coffee table by itself, but it would be nice to sit if I got engrossed.
