eeeks hubby has got promotion and can work from any office nationwide so we have chosen Lincoln as schools are mostly fab, friends and family are up nearer there and houses are much cheaper than here in Fleet, Hants.
House was valued today, goes on market in 3 weeks!
Am dreaming of space and a garden...And having a dog!
Anyoen from here up that way, any tips on areas to buy in?
Cheers
Jane
Sooo excited

Don't live there, but visit lots.

If you're selling in Hants you should be able to afford an "uphill" place too - that's where the posh houses are! I fancy one of the big Victorian places near the castle when I retire. Sorry - not much help am I? The best school was (but probably still is) the Science and Tech school if that helps. The best pub is off West Parade (so, whatever your priorities are, really).

It's a nice city though - hope you like it!

Ohhh me miss!!

I live, and work as a teacher in that area!

What do you want to know??

hmb · 18/03/2004 20:49

Do you mean the LSST? It is good, very good exam results but a selective school in all but name. Bad rep for not taking kids with SEN 1.5% compared to the 16% where I teach.

hmb · 18/03/2004 20:50

You will be able to afford half a village if you live outside Lincoln!

kiwisbird · 18/03/2004 20:52

Have gifted 10 yr old son, maths/art/science/music brain... Need good firm teaching with hard routines and high expectations.
We want 4 beds, extra rooms like conservatory/utilty/study
Prefer semi rural or village location, also need to be 35 mins at most from Lincoln (by motorcycle not car LOL)
I need shops, NCT or similar... Also planning on having baby up there next yr or so...
Yes house prices in Hants are silly, so Lincoln appears like chocolate box of opportunity!
Where should we go to look?
Seen nice places in SCredington/Ruskington etc...

hmb - didn't know that (yes, I did mean LSST). But I was going on reputation among my family a few years ago!

You know more than me

kiwisbird · 18/03/2004 20:54

Shit just reread that makes me sound like poncey twat with uper class aspirations!
So not me am high on gloss piant fumes and Stella Artois
See not at all classy

I even know a fab midwife/childminder!

Ruskington is OK, but quite a drive to Lincoln, and not a lot in it (used to live there a few years ago). Great chippie and Chinese tho!

LSST is great for the high achievers. 75% A-C. Can tell you about private schools if you like. Depending on where you live, Lincoln also has the 11+

How about 4 beds, in 1.75 acres, with formal garden and orchard, 2 reps, cons for £297,000?? In this weeks free papers?

hmb · 18/03/2004 20:59

A freind had her child rejected and the letter stated that if the child had special needs they shouldn't bother to appeal I'm sure that is against the DDA. But they do get good results. What a surprise!

Weeeeeeeeeeee! LOL
We ain't going that high pricewise... No need to. Dh has heart set on new motorcycle, going to pay the inlaws back after they halped us last year buying new car, we are hoping to leave some in investments and then spend about £220k on house...
this easily seems achievable, would love walk to smaller school for son though, he thrives on smaller scale option.
No bother about 11+ he has aced his QCA and did he Stats a yr early too. All the schools we have checked seem great!

Can do you a 5 bed modern 'executive' in Fiskerton for £219,000. a 4 bed cottage backing onto Branston Hall (v nice) with conservatory, garage and potting shed, no chain for £215,000....that would be about 15 mins from Lincoln. In the catchment for LSST (I think). But *don't think about Branston Community Collage

kiwisbird · 18/03/2004 21:17

Mmmm not so keen on over 4 beds, all that hoovering!
Fikserton looks nice though, must think about secondary schools as DS is in Yr 5 now so only a yr away in reality

Also due to Dh's travel committments to Alton and Farnham we need to be south of Lincoln really. He says draw a triangle between Newark Linclon adn Sleaford and go from there, anything in that area is fair game
Newark appeals LOl there is a Waitrose!

OK, 4 beds at Burton Waters (v-posh new development with Marina, and David Lloyd health club on site) 218,000 Out in the country on the Saxelby road. Don't know what catchment area for the schols tho.

hmb · 18/03/2004 21:23

Center of Newark is v nice. Outskirts can be grim in places. I biased as I live on the south side of Lincoln!
