I'm so angry!

I was in the shower earlier, DS had just gotten to sleep after a bad night as he's not well, when someone started repeatedly hammering our very loud door buzzer.
I got dressed as fast as I could, by which point they were hammering on the door and still repeatedly hitting the buzzer, DS had woken and was shocked and crying.
It was a an official looking man wondering if I knew if our next door neighbours were home as he had gotten no reply.
I'm so cross and demanded the name of his company.
Do you think I have a right to phone them and complain. It was rude enough even if it was at the right house, but to act like that to a neighbour!?

you tell 'em. cheeky bastards!

SherlockLGJ · 21/08/2006 11:35

Don't hold back.

JessaJam · 21/08/2006 11:39

Go for it Avalou! Drives me potty when people knock on our door really hard, sending the dogs into a 'protect the house' frenzy and making me and ds jump out of our skins, and when I get to the door...all it is about is "is this number XX?" to which the answer is "no, that's next door" ( can't you count??)
Just cos your next door neighbour owes someone some money, doesn't mean they have to take it out on you!

Thomcat · 21/08/2006 11:41

Ohhh how ridiculous. I'd be fuming too.
What the hell!!!

We had some builders rubble on the edge of the grass verge ready to be taken to the local dump.
Meanwhile the council came round and as we weren't in the knocked on my neighbors door. Made the 16 yr old who was home phone his mum on her mobile to ask her if she knew anything about it!

COMPLAIN, go for it, absolutley.

HyacinthB · 21/08/2006 11:43

Actually I don't think it is cause for complaint; unless you have a notice on the front door saying "Baby asleep - please knock quietly" (or similar) - a friend of mine does this and very effective it is too

HyacinthB · 21/08/2006 11:44

What I mean is - the chap concerned wasn't to know that there was a sleeping baby in the house....although I appreciate that it was frustrating and annoying for you

AvaLou · 21/08/2006 11:45

I've just spoken to their office manager.
I said it was extremely rude, and that someone working in such a sensitive job should surely exercise a little discretion and restraint.
She apologised a lot, and said she will log a complaint against 'the agent' as they don't condone such practice.
Just what I expected them to say really, but it was nice to get it off my chest.

I'm still fuming though. And I feel sorry for the neighbours.

HB

There is still no need for him to knock on the door, like he is auditioning for a place in the Gestapo. IMO

HyacinthB · 21/08/2006 11:47

Oh, didn't spot that bit. Rather persistent was he?

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 21/08/2006 11:47

I think it's cause for complaint - even without such a notice - it's common courtesy to knock once and wait, and then to knock once again, but a bit louder, and wait. It's always the case that even if someone's in they might not be able to come immediately to the door. It is rude to hammer on a door and press a buzzer repeatedly so yes. I think you do have cause for complaint.

AvaLou · 21/08/2006 11:50

And especially rude when he knew he was knocking at the wrong door.

LOL 'auditioning for a place in the Gestapo' It was rather like that

Don't blame you for being angry. So he couldn't get into next door. So what? Why did he have to hammer on your door like it was your fault ? He can't force the door so why knock on it like he wanted to...grrrrr.

One of our neighbours get some very drunk visitors late at night quite regulalry. They knock on his door very loudly for ages sometimes -I just wish they would realise that either he isn't there or he isn't going to answer the door.....

jac34 · 21/08/2006 19:01

A couple of weeks ago the postman called at our neighbours house, very early on a Saturday morning. When he couldn't get an answer he hammered on our door.I woke up and rushed to answer the door and he asked me to take the package for them.I knew they were in they just never answer their door,I was so annoyed I refused, and just told the postman in a loud voice,"Just knock a bit harder mate they just can't be ar*ed to get up".

divastrop · 21/08/2006 20:15

postmen arent even allowed to leave packages with neighbours anymore,i found this out a few months ago when i complained about my postie leaving them with the neighbours i didnt get on with who used to open them(ive moved now)
but baliffs shouldnt knock on neighbours doors atall,if ppl want to avoid them its their business,i wouldve been annoyed if i were the neighbour also having my personal business spread round like that.
