I am very interested to know this as both my mom and dp think i spend far too much on the kids.

Their birthdays are in november and december so it can be a nightmare.

Last year i said i would only spend 75 on each of them, but i actually spent at least 100 each for their birthday and xmas.

I just really like to get them what they ask for, although i can say no (honest).

I can't be the only one that spends more than they should. Am i ??

Nutty, I hope she likes it, now you've got me worried though as its similar - just bigger (I think).

Marialuisa, I know you weren't critising. I come from a family of really practical presesnt givers. I used to get a pair of black boots every year for my christmas present (well as part of it!) DH hates it as he prefers to choose something that I'd like, not what I want (if that makes sense!) I am taking advantage of DD's being too young to care at the moment. Also this way teh grandparents don't compete - mine get practical expensive stuff (lessons/clothes) in-laws get enourmous dolls houses that take over half the house and loads of plastic c**p!! I couldn't bear it if they tried to outdo each other.

Crunchie, the black boots thing made me laugh, that's always what I say I want and DH refuses to buy them! Thankfully we are not in contact with DH's family so we avoid the "competitive grandparent syndrome" altogether.

I spend about £40 on each child - they have lots of doting relatives, so always get loads of stuff anyway. Actually, I do tend to put on one side things like books, pyjamas, school bags and clothes (that I would have bought anyway) and wrap them up as presents. So they do get a bit more than that.

Crunchie - I'm sure she will. My dd does tend to ask for stuff and then never play with it again so........
