Do you feel some sort of bond with where you are from? Could you ever move? and if you have do you miss home?

Just wondering because I was bought up in Newcastle, left 14 years ago but am now increasingly feeling the pull to go home, dh cant understand it. I tend to go back more regularly now to torture myself with home.

I miss it so much and want to move back but dh doesnt. Just wanted to know if anyone else felt or feels like this

Somebody died in there after taking Ecstasy and they had turned the water off in the toilets to encourage pepole to buy water. This person couldn't get water from the toilets and died so they closed it down.

aelita · 19/08/2006 10:11

Bloody hell, didn't know that! That used to be pretty standard practice in clubs for a while I think...

PatsyJ · 19/08/2006 10:30

themoon66 - ahhh you are v sweet! Thanks for the invite out but I am going up north (ha ha) for a long weekend on Thursday morning with DH and DD! Can't wait.

I too used to work at the County Hospital and loved it (admin - only temping mind you - but for about 2 mths). I had a permanent job which I was waiting to come to 'fruition' at the time as had just moved to Lincoln. The guy I was working for was quite keen for me to stay and try and make the job permanent but like all these things there was no guarantee I'd get the job because of the silly way they do things in public sector and I was going to be on a lot more dosh at the other job. The other job turned out to be pants (although I stayed a long time - money isn't everything is it?). I really liked the people I worked with at LC too - a complete mix of people. I was in facilities.

Maybe when I get back we could meet up sometime if you are on for it? Not sure how you send a private msg on these boards maybe better that way?

Thanks for cheering me up - it's not that I totally hate Lincoln it's just I miss my friends and family. Since having DD though things have improved massively as I've met quite a few nice mums!

Anyway sorry for hijacking this thread .

I'll think of all of you next week who can't make it back up north!!

Angelcake99 - my in laws are in Tynemouth. DH and I got married at the Grand Hotel - I love it there and on the beach! My idea of heaven with those FAB views!! It's just sooo special. DH and I want to move to Tynemouth when we get back up there but I think we'll need a few lottery wins first as it's sooo expensive!

domestickler · 19/08/2006 11:04

Ohhhh the Grand at Tynemouth. They do a lovely Sunday Dinner!

popsycal · 19/08/2006 17:18

something just came to me...anyone around my age (32...) remember when eldon square first opened and the pencils that you could climb on....?

tortoiseshell · 19/08/2006 18:27

popsy - blast from the past - I DO remember the pencils. They also used to have fountains that changed colour I seem to remember, maybe near Bainbridges?

Ulysees · 19/08/2006 21:57

MagicGenie, you're right..what they're doing to Darlo centre is awful It'll look like every other town centre. No one I know wanted it to change but the council wouldn't listen. Where are you from?

Ulysees · 19/08/2006 21:58

Patsy, sorry I didn't read your post properly Thought you were saying Lincoln was lovely for you.

Note to self: read replies thoroughly in future!

Hope you enjoy your weekend.

themoon66 · 19/08/2006 22:14

Aha Patsy. Facilities eh? Where I have to keep going and pleading for new car parking passes every time I lose yet another one!

PatsyJ · 19/08/2006 22:41

Thats ok Ulysees - Lincoln is a nice place really - its just not for me (after 6 years you think I'd be used to it!). Love the cathedral and all the old bits.

I too remember the pencils and colour changing fountains in eldon square - I believe they are changing it all/extending it again aren't they. My MIL is involved with the design of it. Fab place for shopping though In fact will be paying it a visit next week - love Fenwicks and the window at Xmas! Used to work in the town centre and spend a fortune at lunchtime every day!

Moon66 - it was a good few years ago now I worked there (about 5!) - prob hardly anyone there now who would remember me (the guy I worked for left a while ago). If you fancy a meet up some time would be great Are you medical then or admin/technical side of things?

Sorry don't know Darlo at all so can't comment but it's a shame in general when councils change things that everyone is familiar with and actually LIKE!

It's amazing how many places I don't know up north. Everytime I pass Penshaw in the car I always make a mental note that I must go and see it sometime!

themoon66 · 19/08/2006 23:11

Patsy - I'm a medical secretary... in the dept of psychiatry. Ive been there about 8 years. Before I had DD and DS I was a psychiatric nurse, so worked in the hospital for a long time.

I've just seen this thread as I rarely think to look in other subjects.

I live in Newcastle thought dp and I are from Northumberland. I too always get excited when I see the Angel on the A1, or come over the bridge on the train.

I love the north-east, I think that it's a really great part of the world. The city centre of Newcastle is lovely, surrounded by the green spaces of the moors. I also love the Northumbrian coast, Druridge Bay, Warkworth, Alnmouth, Craster and Bamburgh are soooo beautiful, yet relatively non-touristy.

Dp and I can't imagine living anywhere else but the north-east, Dp would prefer to live in his home town but I'm happy in Newcastle.

MagicGenie · 20/08/2006 17:31

Hiya again

Ulysees, I'm born and bred Darlo! My parents are still there and still come up to visit but have been in the London area for a while now.

I didn't wanna say earlier cos my first thread sounds really miserable and down on the place, and I didn't want to offend anyone. And reading it back, it is too harsh .

I live in the Eastbourne area, went to Eastbourne school, and was one of a few who made it to the sixth form. I didn't leave Darlo until I went to do my degree at.....Sunderland!!!!

So my Darlo going out/clubbing experiences are going to teenage discos at The Flammy (our nickname for the Pink Flamingo, now Hogans - next to the station), The Institute (now Flares), Lara's (now the Plastered Parrot), Mardi Gras (same name, I think!) and so many more!

We had the odd venture out to a club in Boro whose name I forget (not in the centre though...is it The Oasis?...summat like that...hey you Boro lot, what's the name of the place I'm thinking of?!!)

When I got to Sunderland, I went all wide-eyed and wondering to the Blue Monkey, full of tales of ecstacy-fuelled mad raves and police busts. What an anti-climax!

But loved the 70's nights on Wednesdays at Annabel's, Bourbon Street on a Monday and Ku Club on Tuesday (very indie/student-y) and Bentley's on Thursdays. I was horrified when it changed it's name to 'Pizaaz' cos I thought it sounded so naff!

Ulysees · 20/08/2006 21:20

Magic, I knew it!!! How old are you btw? I think hogans was called Rumours when I was first on the scene?

My cousin is in London now and wouldn't move back. We're from the Branko area.

Ulysees, I'm 33, nearly 34. Don't remember it being called Rumours...before my time? How old are you? Anyway, thought you might not reply what with me being and Eastbourne hooligan and all

mygirl, I loved Annabel's. It was a total scream every Weds. What were the names of the DJs who used to dress up in all the 70's gear? I forget now.

Where else did you used to go in S/land?
