Because I have

I have been getting little bits and bobs for stocking fillers as I see them, and cheapo books.

Can I also recommend one of these £500 bank things , I realise it is better to save in a bank as you get interest, HOWEVER, dh and I have been shoving the odd £1 in every now and then and our Christmas fund can is now neary half full.

Am I:
a) a complete anal saddo or
b) vvvvvv organised and to be admired?

I have just ordered one of those saving tins OO, fantastic. That will help out with Xmas loads.
I start maternity leave at end of September so plan to get all Xmas done in the 7 weeks I have off before new baby arrives

MarsLady · 17/08/2006 11:20

Of course! I have a present box. I shop during the sales and store things away. Doesn't everyone? lol

btw... you are vvvvvv organised and to be admired!

MarsLady · 17/08/2006 11:23

Might get the kids those tins. I have a Terrimundi pot (mind blank... think that's what it's called). It's clay and I pop £2 coins in it. Takes about £500. Then you smash it. lol But those tins are much cheaper.

threelittlebabies · 17/08/2006 11:23

oliveoil- I want one of those cans! Please can I ask did you have to put a source code in, will it let me order without?

Bozza · 17/08/2006 11:24

No even better DS did not need new shoes.

LemonTart · 17/08/2006 11:30

Glad it isn?t just me thinking about Christmas
Not started buying yet but will not be spending anything like we did last year. Unwrapping took almost all Christmas morning and my two were so overwhelmed by it that other than the initial gaze of wonder and the stack of pressies all over the livingroom floor and taller than DD1, it was way too much. I squirrelled gifts away from Sept and didn?t realise how overboard I had gone (lots of bargains to be fair) until I wrapped them all up
Never ever again - and don?t have anything near the cash that we had last year (good year for work last year, not so good this but Tax for previous year coming up in Jan...)

Just one question - my kids change their mind about their fav. pressie from Sept to Dec so how do you know that they will still really really want their main present at Christmas? Or do you not bother with that and get what you think best anyway?

Thinking about getting Nintendogs for DD1 (5.5) anyone seen these and can offer an opinion on them??

Misdee - love the recycling idea. Going to do that for my DD2 as well

CountTo10 · 17/08/2006 11:32

It is terramunid marslady, we've got one and we get them as christening, moving in presents etc as they're cool. I like the fact I get stuff in the sales for xmas as it stops these shops ripping us all off a month before xmas

wheelsonthebus - i too love the xmas choirs and merrily have it playing when i put the tree up on the 1st december - what can i say i luuuuuuurve xmas!!!

Piffle · 17/08/2006 11:33

well this year ds 12 is in NZ with his Dad over xmas and as he has a school ski trip in Feb, thats our present to him for xmas and his birthday, given that dp will undoubtedly by a Ps 3 when it comes out as well ds ain't doing too badly methinks.
I'll be nearly 7 mths pregnant at xmas, so we'll be having a very quiet CHEAP xmas at home.

CountTo10 · 17/08/2006 11:34

lemontart - i worry about that a bit but i think you have to bite the bullet and do it!!

Joolstoo · 17/08/2006 11:36

bog off with your Christmas thread Olive

flippin' 'eck!

donnie · 17/08/2006 11:38

no presents yet but I will admit to having acquired some Chrissie cards from various sources....

MarsLady · 17/08/2006 11:39

Terramundi... cheers countto10. I give them as presents for the same reason. Gorgeous aren't they? Am on my 4th pot!

CountTo10 · 17/08/2006 11:41

I do get to the point where I'm almost breaking into notes to get the pound coins to feed it - its like an addiction!!

Me too Count. My friends hide their purses. If I see £2 coins I make them change them for any £1 coins I have (or even other change). I have a zip section in my purse that I put £2 coins into until I get home and can feed my hungry pot lol. Gonna blow it all on my birthday party!

CountTo10 · 17/08/2006 11:49

Mine's going on my friends hen weekend in portugal next weekend - my first time away without partner or child - yikes!!!!

MarsLady · 17/08/2006 11:56

Ooh you'll have so much fun! It's VERY important to take time away from the family. Good for baby and good for partners. Makes YOU a better mum too lol

CountTo10 · 17/08/2006 12:02

Absolutely - a little bit of sanity - the thought of reading a book and getting ready without having to play dress up at the same time is just superb!!

nutcracker · 17/08/2006 12:04

I have almost decided what they are having, just need to start buying it.

Mst get one of those £500 tins, where can you get them from ??

daisy1999 · 17/08/2006 12:12

olive definatley anal but you are not alone

oliveoil · 17/08/2006 12:43

wots this terramundi pot nonsence then? Do I have the working class version??

I saw these in the Yellow Moon catalogue thing that dd1 brought home from playgroup, I am sure you can get them elsewhere, no idea on code 3babies.

I may start a thread saying "who wants all my v annoying noisy plastic toys then" and have a clear out.

stop all htis Christmas talk at once - you're making me uncomfortable.

I need a button that does without buying and selling or christmas threads

threelittlebabies · 17/08/2006 16:26

Ta anyway olive, if you order online you need a code for your school or playgroup. I got one off ebay though- great idea, thanks!

sorkycake · 17/08/2006 16:34

Yes yes yes! VVV.organised and to be admired and also revered for starting a Christmas thread this early

I have all my cards, wrapping paper and tags etc as I bought them in the Jan sales. I have 50% approx of all my pressies either stored away or I have the component parts to make them. I also have a presents box that I dip into for birthdays etc throughout the year. These gifts are either recycled gifts we have received but won't use or things bought in sales earlier in the year.

I also have a to do list of all the jobs that will need to be done and when they have to be started like christmas cake making, etc.

What's everyone else got, or up to?

foxinsocks · 17/08/2006 16:39

lol at you lot

I prob won't buy anything for Xmas till the week before but in my defence, ds's birthday is November so I don't tend to think about Xmas till after that
