We have sold our flat, yay..and liked the look of Ware. We are a multicultural family, a DS of 16 & DD of 22 months and was wondering what goes on in Ware etc?

Sorry.

Couldn't resist

kid · 16/08/2006 22:04

My friend lived there for 2 years before she moved to San Fransisco, she really like it there.

Curlylox · 16/08/2006 22:08

Not far from Ware and really like it-a couple of nice bars/restaurants,lovely walks by the canal, the world's best garden centre up the road and a great zoo not far away.
As for what else happens-not sure but very good links to London.
Sorry not much help.

Curlylox · 18/08/2006 21:32

I live in Hertford, very close to Ware. It's a lovely place to live. Ware was recently voted one of the best places to live in the country!

popmum · 18/08/2006 23:19

good grief are the where's ware jokes still on the go! i lived there most of my life and believe me, they 'ware' a little thin after a year or so!!!

quite a few faith schools - catholic vs cofe and neutral ones. there is the college for 16yo.

lots of nice houses, al quite near river. has a great 'festival' in the summer, very good local community i think

i would move back now (only down the road), but we can't find a house there.

hertford is also nice, i am a big fan - keep finding new things to do there.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 18/08/2006 23:21

Tis a few miles North from me. Its quite lovely.

popmum · 18/08/2006 23:24

sorry meant to say most of the houses are quite near the TOWN. but you need a car cos the tescos is v. small

Curlylox · 20/08/2006 10:39

Thanks for sharing. Popmum where are or where do you go for your supermarket shopping, retail stores etc.

ComeOVeneer · 20/08/2006 10:42

I work in Hertford and got married in Ware it is lovely area, not sure about the schools though as I actually live in N. London. I know a good dentist there though .

ComeOVeneer · 20/08/2006 10:44

Hertford has a good selection of shops (waitrose/tescos/monsoon/boots/woolworths etc) and there is Brookfields retail park just of the A10 which is not bad.

Curlylox · 20/08/2006 10:47

Ok perhaps you would give me your opinion on another matter. We have seen a house that we like but two things putting me off, it's next to a bus stop, buses run every half hour and every hour on Sundays and across the road is a pub. Would you buy it??????

OP posts:
ComeOVeneer · 20/08/2006 10:51

Bus wouldn't worry me but the pub would. One thing I do know about Hertford (and I'm not sure if the same applies to Ware) is that throwing out time is often pretty troublesome (I work with 4 girls in their late teens/early 20's and often hear tales of fights/vomitting in the streets etc). I also know a boy was stabbed and died a couple of weeks outside a pub in Ware.

Not wanting to put you of the area as it is lovely but I would have concerns about being opposite a pub anywhere in the country tbh.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/08/2006 10:52

Which road/pub Curlylox? We used to be very near Ware (still reasonably close) and have friends still there, so may help to know whereabouts.

Curlylox · 20/08/2006 10:56

Cromwell Road, pub in question is The Jolly Bargeman.......

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/08/2006 11:01

Our friends are in Cromwell Road and drink in that pub!!! They would probably say it's fine (I think it's a fairly family friendly pub), although like ComeOVeneer I personally wouldn't live opposite any pub.

If you do live in that area then you must buy some garish Christmas decorations (life size Snowmen, Santas and the like) to put in your garden, as they are compulsory!

Curlylox · 20/08/2006 11:10

About the Christmas decorations, surely you jest........

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 20/08/2006 11:12

Afraid not!

Curlylox · 20/08/2006 11:55

I live near Ware and use the sports centre with the kids - action tots is great. Scotts grotto is also a favorite. Reckon all the primary schools are good - not sure about secondary for boys but girls is good. Not sure it is very multicultural - vast majority are white and british. I think the tescos is adaquate - sure lots of people do all their shopping there - but doesn't have a range of 'exotic' ingredients - all very bog standard. Think there are a couple of delis now selling better stuff.

LizP · 20/08/2006 13:20

Oh and the xmas decorations are right - but it's catching - spent last year trying to persuade dh to get a flying light up santa for the roof - we comprimised but still there is always this year!

popmum · 20/08/2006 23:22

if you are not sure about being near a pub or bus, try looking for houses on kingshill (area) or old vicarage estate - ask estate agents for any in those areas - are newer homes, but no pubs.

And don't loads of places have those 'garish' xmas things now?

The tesco in ware is quite small - but hertford one is ok and has good other shops. As someone else mentioned the Brookfield centre in cheshunt is good, as is harlow and other places.

Curlylox · 21/08/2006 19:55

Ta popmum. It seems to have gone a bit quiet on the housing front. Saturday gone was the first Saturday in ages we didn't have any viewings. But would appreciate any more info, good or bad.
