Hello everyone.

I have just had an awful experience! I was at the play group with my dd. It's in a Church leading out onto a very bust road.
When we left i locked the door and let go of dd's hand for a sec to check it was locked. (She is normally a very good, sensible little girl- just gone 3 and she was standing right next to me), anyway.....she ran straight down the ramp, to the very edge of the path facing the road. She was on the edge of the kerb, JUST stopped and turned round and laughed at me!!!
I can't beleive she did it, feel AWFUL for letting go of her hand but was SO angry with her, (also very shaken and can't stop thinking now about what could've hapened! She could have lost her balance and fallen into the road!!).
She got the worst telling off she's ever had and cryed alot!!! When we got home she gave me a hug and said she'd never do it again, i explained how dangerous it was!

Don't know why i'm rambling on.........just so shocked!!

Frenchgirl · 15/03/2004 16:07

Angeliz, please don't feel bad. dd did the same thing to me at the same age and a lady actually stopped her on edge of the pavement. I don't think dd would have gone on the road but I was soooo grateful and embarassed and angry and shaken. it took me a while to get over it. Hugs to you and dd

Mummysurfer · 15/03/2004 16:07

don't worry about it. the shock of your reaction will make her think twice before doing it again. the one & only time i smacked my dd was when she ran away from me in asda car park. but she didn't do it again

oh I hate this- it's ds1's favourite trick at the moment. If I tell him off he just laughs, and does it all the more. He did it at the end of last week and was in the middle of the road before I caught up with him (at 4 and a half he is fast). Hate it, hate it, hate it. We now walk from the house to the car with ds2 in one arm-and my other hand firmly grabbing ds1's hood. Actually we did that the last time he ran away but he managed to slip away as he was getting in the car.

It still leaves me shaken every time.

Angeliz · 15/03/2004 16:43

Thanks everyone

DD was as shocked as me i think,(if not more so by my reaction- don't think she's ever seen me so andry and directed at her!!).

We just had a snuggle and watched Big cook little cook!

Jimjams really feel for you, once was bad enough !!

Am off to make the dinner but thanks for the support++++++++++

Mine have done this as well. Sometimes I think it's only the extreme reaction that gets through to them. However, not all mums are the same. Was walking into town a few months ago and saw a little girl (about 3-4) standing on her own by the side of the road. I waited for a few minutes but there appeared to be no adults with her. When I approached her to check she was ok, a woman came got out of a car she was parking up the road & shouted 'it's alright - she's with me'. I know it wasn't a very busy road, but I couldn't believe she had just left her there and gone to the car - some people!
