I think thats a reasonable price for 2 windows.
I tend to spend about the same for main rooms, front room(a bay window),dinning room, our bedroom(a bay & side window), but have bought cheaper for kitchen, bathroom, etc.
Whenever I've spent alot on curtains they have always lasted well, and still look good years later.
I also think that if you have lovely big windows, it's a shame not to dress them well.

It depends if they are ready made or made to measure.£250 for 2 windows seems ok though

£4/pair in a charity shop, to go in DH's room (one window). Boy am I mean about money, though.

bossykate · 13/03/2004 17:19

i think £250 would be excellent value for made-to-measure, not to say cheap.

for ready-made, depends on the size of your windows, but i'd be looking for good quality material, finish and lining for that price.

hth.

a quid. brand new as well. love ikea sale lol. but i like things simple so they dont cost much. £250 is a good price if you really really want them.

I would spend £250 (in fact I would be delighted if my livingroom curtains came in at £250 or under, big bay window, haven't been in the house long enough to get to the livingroom curtain changing stage yet). If they are what you want, good quality material, well finished and the size you need, then go for it. I usually get curtains made but this is only because we tend to live in houses with non-standard sized windows.

50p for my much admired bedroom curtains bought in a sale Textile World.
Looked into replacing lounge curtains - about £300 for ones which were nothing special so still have the old ones with torn linings 5 years on. At least I don't mind it when the kids swing from them.

We don't have any curtains in the living area at all. So high up we don't need it for privacy and quite like being able to look out.

In DD's bedroom she has girly ones from next which cost about £50.

In our bedroom we have rreally long navy tab top ones from Ikea - costs about £40 for the pair.

MIL spends a fortune on curtains - hundreds of pounds to have them made each time.

Blimey, is that how much ready made curtains cost?
I always make my own (no, I'm not a fabulous seamstress, but curtains are about the easiest thing to make). Just made new ones for the children's rooms. Got some great fabric in a shop called Dunelm in Lincoln (where my parents live). Dd's are pink and silvery and very girly. Ds's are blue with cars on. Including curtain tape and thread they cost £20 each and were made in an afternoon.
But I'm sure there're things I would spend loads more on than other people. If its what you really want and can afford them then I'd say go for it.
