Dh has suggested we get ds a tv/dvd player for his bedroom. Not to have an ariel on it but solely for dvds. Would be on wardrobe to stop ds being able to access it. Now I was always against him having a tv until he is a lot older [he will be 3 in oct] but dh is suggesting it because ds wakes up at around 6am so thought we could put on a dvd for him to get an extra hour or so as dd doesnt wake until 7.30/8am. Plus will have db in jan so as much sleep as poss is a bonus. Selling it from point of sleep I must admit is slightly winning me over. So what is mn view?

No, he will wake earlier and earlier and pester for DVD's if he is anything like my dd.

SoupDragon · 12/08/2006 21:52

I'm unconvinced that it would work as you plan - you'd have to get up to put the DVD on and I bet you wouldn't get back to sleep again...!

charliecat · 12/08/2006 21:54

As he wont be able to work it himself i would say no. But when he can load then up, switch on the tv, get the dvd channel etc then yes...

tiredemma · 12/08/2006 21:54

both of my boys have one, they are not set up for tv viewing, they watch them in the morning when they wake up. useful for me so I dont have to get up at 6am to enteratain them.

So I dont have a problem with it.

Nemo1977 · 12/08/2006 21:55

believe me soupy I would sleep again...lol

He could actually work the player but I dont want him to have access to it incase it ends up on at bedtime etc.

tiredemma how old are your boys?

You could always set it up for him so that all he has to do is press the right button on the remote when he wakes up (don't put the remote in his room until he has gone to sleep)...

Personally, i don't agree with tvs in children's bedrooms but thinking about it, I realise that we have long survived by allowing our children to go downstairs at 7 o'clock to watch tv, so having a tv in the room used in the way you describe, is not much different.

3 and almost 6

Nemo1977 · 12/08/2006 22:01

DG I would gladly let him downstairs but he insists we come with him otherwise that would be my prime choice..lol

i wouldn't let ds1 (3.3), he won't sit thru a dvd anyway and if toys aren't enough to keep him occupied then waking us all up witha dvd isn't gping to solve it!

besides, u may be up anyway at that time with a newborn so u can always sit him in front of cbeebies

Nemo1977 · 12/08/2006 22:06

true about being up but my other two as babies have always gone back to sleep in the morning its just now ds is of the mind that once awake he has to bounce up..lol
