I know, i'm here again....

Anyway i have found a H/A advertising some 4 bed town houses in Faversham. I have emailed them to see if i had to be living or working in the area to apply and they have replied, saying no. They are going to send me a form and then i can be assessed for their list.

I know i discounted Kent before, but i think it's weird how it keeps cropping up.

Any info good or bad appreciated

My brother and various nieces and nephew live in Faversham. It's a very nice little town, good facilities, close to other bigger towns like Canterbury, good transport links and near to the country and sea side. I'd definitely go for it!

Why did you discount Kent previously? Where are you at the moment?

Kent is a nice place to live, but not cheap. Faversham itself is quite a nice place, smallish town so a bit more cosy than some of the bigger towns. Very near Ashford, so links to the continent via the tunnel if you're interested. Canterbury is not far and is a lovely city.

hi, my dd godmother lives in faversham and says it's a lovely place to live. It seemed nice when we wnet down recently for her wedding. She teaches there aswell can ask her what schools are really like - from a teachers point of view

The only reason that we previously discounted Kent was because we would of had to do an exchange with someone and as we have noisy neighbours i didn't feel it was fair to them.
Also, we live in Birmingham now so obviously it is very far away from family and friends.
We are soooo desperate to move though now, so we would really consider it. Plus it is a 4 bed house. I still would have to apply, but i think that there are three 4 beds available at the mo.
The H/A are sending me an application form.

Most surprisingly, i mentioned it to my mom and she seemed o.k about it (very weird).

The increase in the cost of living would worry me though.

nutty my friends mum and dad lived in faversham in a HA house and loved it there, wished they'd moved

The women from the H/A emailed me back with the whole address, but when i put it in on up my street the reports weren't good and the nearest school had terrible results.

I'm surprised at that NC. What sort of bad reports did it come up with? My bro says it's a sleepy hollow kind of place. The schools are still selective at secondary level, I believe, so maybe that's skewed the results for other schools? Went to the grammar school myself, many, many moons ago.

nutcracker · 12/03/2004 21:09

Well the Acorn report said 'High unemployment, single parents, high poverty' or something similar.

It's Barnes Close, Bysing wood Rd estate, Faversham, Kent.

Nearest primary school is Bysing Wood school.

The results for english, maths and science were awful. None above 40% i think.

I know i'm sounding really picky and snobby, but it's a long way to go and regret it.

That doesn't sound good. I can't remember where Bysing Wood Rd is now, I must admit. What a shame, as the town itself is nice.

Oh well, never mind. The search goes on..........

Forgive me if I've got the wrong end of the stick but won't ANY H/A housing be in a less salubrious area?

All the places you've tried before in Kent are in areas with high numbers of single parents & high unemployment, because that is where the accomodation is needed. Doesn't it go together as a matter of course?

nutcracker · 13/03/2004 18:58

You are right Tallulah, but it wasn't really the Acorn report that put me off because as you said, with it being a council area the reports always say that. It was the terrible school results that really put me off. I don't mind accepting an area a bit worse than where i am now, but i'm not going to send my kids to a school with results like that.
I'm hoping that when the application form comes there may be a bit more info, or some pictures with it.
I haven't discounted it complelty just yet.

Sorry if i sounded like i was being a snob, i'm not really (honest)
