Do anyone of you just wake up in a foul mood. I have this morning for no apparent reason after spending a lovely weekend with dp/ds - shouted at ds this morning three times followed by three apologies - dont know how to shake it when I'm like this - please dont suggest Chocolate as trying very hard to stick to diet!!

Lulu40 - ARGH!! I did it last week and can only assume its hormonal as no other logical explanation can be found. As for solutions erm... don't drink any more caffeine as this could make you more snappy, try camomile tea to soothe. Try dabbing some lavender oil on your temples and wrists (preferable only if you actually like the smell!) this can calm and relax you. Take 5 mins to concentrate on your breathing (I know it sounds c* but it really can help). Close your eyes and inhale, think about filling up your belly with air rather than your lungs. Grab ds and cuddle him to death- if he'll let you! Get outside and get some fresh air and vit D. I know you are on a diet, BUT if you can get 70% cocoa solids chocolate like green and blacks, treat yourself to some, its not that high in sugar and contains serotonin (the chemical that you're probably lacking in your brain right now) boosting chemicals - it won't make any difference to your overall weight if you have few squares, promise!

Alternatively find something that needs a good overhall like beating a few rugs or cleaning the sofa!

And in the wise, wise words of Destiny's Child 'if I surround myself with positive things I'll gain prosperity' (WHAT??!!)

I'm sending you a big grinner to help your day along

Having plenty of foul moods myself just recently. Trying to move house and things just aren't going right or fast enough. I'm trying out those Kalms tablets that you may have seen on tv. Not quite sure if they actually work or if it's just a gimmic, and because you've taken something you feel better-you know that sort of thing!! You could try smelling something that reminds you of a happy time such as cinnamon, reminds you of christmas or even a squirt of your best perfume as it may remind you of your last good evening out-or in!!!

Hello again, I reckon you might be right about the old hormones - I'm practicaly on the verge of tears/killing anyone who annoys me - I did however give in at luncthime to the old choccie craving - I went for a walk to try and shake my mood - but ended up in Thorntons with a big bag of chocolate brazils - even worse mood now!!! God I feel hopeless today - I tried Kalms for a while last year when I was having a really stressful time with Ds but to be honest dont think they helped. I am going to try to cheer up before I get home tonight as I hate ds having such a grumpy mum after a hard day at nursery! Thanks for your suggestions as they say tomorrows another day, perhaps I will wake up in a better mood!!!!

I usually say to my family as soon as I get home - look, Mummy is in a silly grumpy mood today for no reason. So please can you let me have a good long soak in the bath followed by an early night, and I promise to try and cheer up by tomorrow.
That normally heads things off, and stops me feeling quite so guilty if I do get cross.

I think there is a programme on Victoria Beckham tonight, which should bring a few laughs.

Good luck, and have a glass of wine on me!

I am such a grump in the mornings and if I start my day off badly then the rest of it can sometimes be a struggle. I had a coversation with an aromatherapist who suggested a few things to me :
One was the drinking a lot more water ( the good old one which some days feels impossible to fit in).
The other was to get to bed before 11pm most nights and to try and give yourself a 10 minutes or so to yourself before getting up.
I know now that it did have a possitive effect on me as now I have slipped back into my old ways and feel like I am struggling to stay focus and happy. Does anyone else find it hard to wind down and shut off before midnight ?

SueDonim · 04/03/2002 18:07

SAB, yes, I'm a night owl! I can't remember a time when I was in a good mood in the morning, not even when I was a little girl. I come into my own about 9.30 or 10pm. The only time I'm ever in bed before midnight is if I am ill.
