What does your 7 year old boy play with most?

Looking for inspiration for ds's 7th birthday presents.

We have a big box of lego and a spirograph tucked away already (bought when he had an operation earlier this year, in case his recuperation was difficult. As it was we didn't need them then ).

I'm thinking about a Gameboy, altho it's slightly against my better judgement (don't like the idea of him 'shutting out the world' for hour after hour).

So just general ideas please, as granny and aunty are asking.

DS mostly plays with his willy (-: Sorry not very helpful.

DS is only five but loves PC games such as lego starwars etc. He also spends ages on his scooter and bike or kicking a ball around. Everyone also seems mad on the neighbours new trampoline if you can stretch the budget that far. Make sure you get a safety net though. CD player for his bedroom with his choice of a few cds?

LOL Kathleen - that was my first answer!

My 7 year old brother mostly plays with his football in the garden

Somehow I just knew what your first answers would be !!!

Unfortunately he isn't a hugely outdoors kid. occasionally plays with his football, can't get him into riding his bike at all (scared of hurting himself, a bit of a wuss really )

Any other ideas?

don't get a gameboy - ds has discovered our ancient playstation and it's really annoying. I limit it to once a week now.
He likes the idea of his bike and scooter but needs more practice as he keeps falling off. My fault as I don't take him out on them enough.
Other than that he is mad about b**y Scooby Doo and also had a Tintin phase.
Want to start getting him a few things for Christmas but I am really stuck.
He is 6.

Oh thanks Mellowma, I've been sooooo worried about ds being the only kid with a phobia about falling off his bike.

Interestingly, he seems to be the only one not obessessed with his willy (altho' he does sort of 'hold it' quite a lot of the time while walking about)

Yes Cupcakes, ds is scooby doo obssessed too, drives me mad.

I thought at least with a gameboy he wouldn't need to use the telly or my computer. He plays lots of games on my computer, which stops me working (or mumsnetting) when he's actually occupied doing something that doesn't need my attention.

My DS is 7. We bought him a gameboy for last Christmas. Right from the begining I explained he needed to ask us if he could play on it before he did so. I explained that I did not want him playing on it for more than half an hour at a time - at a push an hour ie - long car journey. He aleays asks for permission to play on it and when I tell him to switch it off - he does so - no problem. I explained that I was trusting him to follow these rules and if he didn't I would not let him play on it for a week - then he would get it back. Never had to enforce this though. He loves it. He is too scared to ride bike aswell! not sporty! he is the academic type - but I'm not complaining he's wonderful! I say make up the ground rules to start off with and you should be OK.

I would have chosen willy too
however Nintendo DS Lite is the hot sought after toy of the moment
he will be the coolest boy in school if he gets one
