Sold a monitor to someone in june..won auction june 14th, I posted out june 15th and didnt hear anything, no feedback etc which is not unusual. Anyway I just had an email from the buyer saying it never turned up and did I post it can I prove it etc. I got rid of the proof of posting after a month [which I always do as assume people would contact within a month if not turned up]. In the buyers email she mentions that she went to usa and something was attempted to be delivered but she was away etc...now I know the parcel had a return address on and have not recieved it back so am I still responsible. I am worried as she will try to dispute item as I now have no proof of postage. So where do I go from here?

Contact the post office, how did you post out??

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 18:40

No I think it is her tough luck. Where has the parcel gone, is she saying that the PO don't have it any more? They don't return undelivered mail that quickly I am sure, unless it was registered or recorded (will check this though). If she went away and didn't make arrangements for her post to be collected that is her look out I would say.

fuzzywuzzy · 07/08/2006 18:42

If it's recorded they keep it for two weeks before returning it to sender (I think)....

Scoobydooooo · 07/08/2006 18:42

Did she pay through paypal?

Nemo1977 · 07/08/2006 18:42

will only have been posted first class so post office wont have a record. Franny just hoping she sees it as her issue iykwim. If she had mentioned going away etc then surely she should have made alternative arrangements.

if it's not recorded they keep it for 3 weeks & then post it back to the sender if there is an address

Nemo1977 · 07/08/2006 18:44

think she did paypal so need to double check as she may just claim it via them

By the way she can only make a claim through paypal if it is opened within 45 days of her paying, if she tries to claim after this paypal with not accept this & will close her claim with no refund,

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 18:45

I would reply making it quite clear that it was her responsibility to make sure the parcel would be received when the PO atempted delivery, and that while you are positive you sent the parcel, you no longer have the Proof of Postage as you only keep these for 30 days.

Scoobydooooo · 07/08/2006 18:46

I knwo this because i have just been done over by them after someone sold me some counterfeit stamps & being contacted by royal mail crime investigation unit, but i opened a claim & because it was 45 days over when i paid the claim was closed by paypal & i was not allowed a refund & this was to do with fraud so there is no way she will get a refund.

Has she still got the card which said it was undeliverable ? It may have a number on to track it.

Nemo1977 · 07/08/2006 18:48

right she must have paid by cheque as no sign of her on my paypal.Dont know if she still has the card but is it now her responsibility if it is shown that something was posted?

I think it is now her responsibility as you are not required to keep records / proof etc of things posted after a certain date - a month is very reasonable. The onus was on her to contact you within a sensible period if the parcel did not turn up - not nearly 2 months later. (sorry was thinking from your initial post it was only 3 weeks ago which is why I couldn't believe PO would not have kept it for that long )
