awww poor you twiglett! You're too nice

I guess it's too late to back out of it now?

princesspeahead · 09/03/2004 21:21

You panicked! Completely understandable. Why is she asking a pregnant person anyway? Phone her (or better still get dh to phone her) with a lie about needing to go to the doctor to get your bp checked because your ankles have swollen and you are concerned it is a little high... that way you get out of it, and you also remind her of your delicate condition (and make her feel slightly guilty about asking you!)

he he he

No No No no ...Yes! When she returns ask her to take yours with her to give you a while to recover, if she can't do that then, make arrangements for a day soon when you can look forward to putting your feet up for a few hours..

I wouldn't dream of asking a pg friend with a 3 yr old to babysit actually, it does seem a bit selfish!

Tommy · 09/03/2004 21:23

Well... you can either be honest and say you're not feeling up to it or, as I do, "I'd rather not because I'm soooo tired and exhausted at the moment but if you really can't find anyone else then I probably could manage it as long as you don't mind them watching CBeebies all morning".
In this way, you've let her know how you're feeling about it but you've still said yes to alleviate your guilt thing about saying no.
Hope that makes sense - I know what I mean anyway!

no! I do it all the time! everyone does! (well, everyone nice, anyway)...

make sure you make her reciprocate. and spend your time doing something lovely, like lying in a bath with a good book for 2 hours at 10am, not running around buying moses basket sheets!

crystaltips · 09/03/2004 21:43

well if it's any consolation ....

My head would say : "No! No! No!"
and
My mouth would say "Tell you what - drop them round a couple of hours early and go and do some shopping and give yourself a break"

Why do we do that ?????

Slinky · 09/03/2004 21:50

I'm just the same - and it does infuriate me and DH

A friend had her first baby same time as I had my 3rd. One day, phone rings, she's upset, can't cope etc - can I look after her baby (newborn) for a couple of hours????

Yes I say - bring him round! So I'm looking after 2 newborns, a 22 month old DS and a 4 yo DD! DH was NOT impressed when he found out.

Levanna · 09/03/2004 22:41

I say 'yes' when I mean 'NO!'. I also offer favours out of the blue, a bit like crystaltips 'extended' offer . No idea why. Well, I suppose it's partially selfish - I love helping out if I can, it makes me feel good . But sometimes, it's just a pain in the a*!
My DH suffers from the same problem......my lovely little sis mentioned one day that she wasn't sure how to arrange transport for moving herself and her DD. My DH said he'd pick her and her stuff up. Good, yes, but she was moving from EIRE to the U.K. at the time!

Twiglett

I know exactly what you mean. I'm always agreeing to things I don't want to do!

Make sure you call in a favour from that friend.
