Katymac - how's the planning going. If this is to be used as a room divider how about the newer style more solid sliding walls.

Katymac · 05/08/2006 18:34

What do they look like

I'll google "solid sliding doors"

Oh btw the "planning" is going badly - thanks for asking

From what I can see you'd lose more space with sliding, however they do do multi-fold/bi-fold doors, which are solid versions of the concertina and I'm sure more durable. Let me know if I can help with any more brainstorming. Might be in the US, but am a SAHM with time on my hands.

Not fixated, you just want to do it right first time round .

Katymac · 05/08/2006 19:23

I haven't even been told I can go ahead yet

All this aggro could be for nothing

How long before the Council gives approval?

Katymac · 05/08/2006 19:25

We haven't gone for Planning Permission yet - all we have asked is if we did apply would it be straightforward

That's the first stage

PP costs money so you can ask (in principle) for free

And ridiculous amounts of money too. The building permit we've just paid for our deck is $950 dollars which is three times the normal fee here in Colorado

Alipiggie · 05/08/2006 19:29

Surely though if you've done all your planning up front and can document it all will that not help with getting all the permits etc that you need, financing etc.

Katymac · 05/08/2006 19:38

Well if Planning say OK (ish) then I have to do a presentation to the school - then to the bank

and IF they both say yes I apply for a loan, planning persmission and once it's all up and ready apply for OFSTED

put like that it's a bit scarey

Such a fantastic project though. I admire you for taking it on. I'd love to be using my brain at the moment. Limited as I have no working visa, but hopefully if I get green card that's me back into the big wide working world again.

Katymac · 05/08/2006 20:31

What did/do you do out of the home?

I worked in IT, sales and marketing , but was a project manager as the last role. Also helped out at school and volunteer here at the local montessori the boys are at.

Katymac · 05/08/2006 20:44

Hmmm "project manager" you could be useful

Well more than happy to help Seriously I will have time on my hands especially after 27 August when boys in afternoon pre-school, so can easily jump on the computer for you.

Katymac · 05/08/2006 23:13

Well currently I need a floor plan for a 30 place nursery - skribble & I are going slightly insane trying to make the numbers add up (with help from Zippi)

I have a feeling I can't afford the solution

Afternoon, Katymac. What is the overall floor space that you're looking at and how many areas does that floor space have to be divided into??

FrannyandZooey · 06/08/2006 17:33

I use a concertina wall at the church hall where I hold my classes - I find it very useful. What in particular were you worried about? I find it very fast and easy, and makes the space very adaptable. I am not sure how it would work to have it constantly opening and shutting though - what would the flow of people through into that space be like?

Katymac · 06/08/2006 17:59

Alipiggie - I have CAT'ed you so if you get back in touch I can email you what I have already

Franny - would it cope with being open and closed once a day?

OP posts:
Alipiggie · 06/08/2006 19:01

Nothing come thru as yet, but will get back asap. Sounds like a fun thing to help you with!!!

Katymac · 06/08/2006 19:06

Do you want to email me?

Oh, yes, it would. I am not 100% we are talking about the same thing, this is like a big rubbery concertina thing from floor to ceiling and you just heave it along. I expect it would give way eventually but it's pretty sturdy really. I was thinking if you are using it as a means to segregate children, but staff would have to be coming and going during the session. You wouldn't particularly want to be opening and closing it every 5 minutes, although you could, I guess.

FrannyandZooey · 06/08/2006 20:16

LOL just reread that I am absolutely no bloody use at all am I? Sorry
