i live in a bungalow. one storey living is great. i can see my kids room from the living room, no worries about falling down stairs. bathroom is easily accessable.

Didn't live in a bungalow but have done single storey living - we had a big "on one floor" apartment. Loved it - especially when DD was tiny. I knew where she was at any one time and she was safe to pay wherever she wanted.

I grew up in a bungalow (in Ireland as it happens) and I never really adapted to two floor living once I grew up. We did own a victorian terraced house for about 5 years before we had ds, and I found it irritating. Now we have a single level flat and I love it, the only think I miss slightly is an understairs cupboard to store the vacuum cleaner.

Bran, I was in Greenwich last weekend, looking over the river at the flats there and you will never guess what....I thought about you! Wondered which block you were in.... (cos I remember you telling me about the Nelson celebrations last year)

DG, the one with the restaurant on the ground floor with blue window canopies.

DumbledoresGirl · 05/08/2006 13:54

Awww don't think I saw things in that much detail! There was a bluish building though I think!

bran · 05/08/2006 14:03

Hmm, I can't think of a blue-ish building. Mine in one of a row of 4 tall blocks with sandy coloured brick and the top 2 floors are grey panelling. They're almost straight across from the foot tunnel.

giddy1, I have thought of one advantage of a house. We used to have a downstairs guest room which meant we could keep our privacy when we had guests. At the moment our guest bedroom is next to the other bedrooms and opposite the kitchen so we have to try and be quiet in the mornings.

Oh well bran, i wouldn't swear to it! But anyway, I was right by the foot tunnel (Cutty Sark) and saw the flats and thought of you! fabulous views you must have!

expatinscotland · 05/08/2006 18:58

I wish! I grew up in a lovely bungalow. My parents still live there/own it and it's fab.

I'd live in another in a heartbeat, but no way can afford it.

We live in a bungalow which I love. Its excellent with children as, as others have said, you are all on one level and you can see exactly what they are up to at all times.

Also with bungalows, where we live anyway, they tend to have more land/bigger gardens than other properties on the market at a similar price. Also statistically speaking (sure I read this somewhere)the people who are supposed to be happiest in their houses are those who live in a 3 bed bungalow

I really can't think of any disadvantages. Maybe noise for people in bedrooms if others are still up in the evening, but we have never found this to be a problem.

Also, w/the bungalow, my mum and dad were able to make a few modifications and it's now completely accessible as they age.

MUCH cheaper and less hassle than moving when they get too old to have coped w/stairs.

gegs73 · 05/08/2006 19:07

Oh forgot to say, bungalows tend to have big roof spaces too, so if you need another bedroom/bathroom in a few years you could convert your loft which could be alot cheaper than moving.

proudofmyboobs · 05/08/2006 19:25

I live in a bungalow too Fantastic! As gegs73 has said, we have a huge roof space, room for 2 more bedrooms and a bathroom if we want, but seeing as I've had the 2 kids dh contracted me to have he has high hopes of turning the attic/roof space into a games room!!

If I go to the loo I don't have to worry about the children falling down the stairs either
