Hi, as some of you may know I'm in Switzerland. My friend over here has a 23rd old male cousin who wants to improve his English - he's bi-lingual, French & German. He is hoping to find somewhere to stay ("board and logings") in return for work. He's good with kids and is willing to do all sorts.

Can anyone help? (inconveniently I'm on holiday for next 2 weeks, will se if she can join mumsnet & continue the search)

He is staying with family in Cardiff for a month in September, so is looking for somewhere for October & November, any area.

Thanks.

how much money would he need per week?
what kind of job?
is he a handy man sort of guy?

monkey · 19/08/2006 21:48

sorry, I've been away. he doesn't really want to earn money as much as a bed & food in return for which he'd work. he's pretty capable

I think he should be reserved for the single mums only. (I'm happily relationshipped up btw ;))

CaligulaCorday · 19/08/2006 22:07

Hmmm. Can he put up shelves? Is he any good at carpentry? (Call me obsessive)

colditz · 19/08/2006 22:09

DAMMIT no spare bedroom. And I think dp would raise an objection. but dammit.

WelshBoris · 19/08/2006 22:10

Bilingual? Does that mean he's good with his tongue?

nikkie · 19/08/2006 22:31

I've not got a spare room either

SecurMummy · 19/08/2006 22:36

Well, I am single and in desperate need of someone to help me out with all sorts of house stuff and light gardening.....does anyone think dd1 will mind giving up her room for a month or two?

There is plenty of room for her in dd2's room - and I can offer him a small room with tv and sofa etc......

but no money - and I do mean quite a lot of house stuff....

do you think he would consider me? ......Pllleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaassssssssseeeeee

Jimjams2 · 19/08/2006 22:48

If he wants to come over next summer and work with a severely autistic kiddie (supervised) + 2NT little ones then could offer room + private bathroom.......

Put himself on Au Pair World, there are loads of men on there.

Caligula, just a bit obsessive about shelves. Guess what, there are no wall shelves in my flat either - I just went to IKEA and got pine ones for 13.50 euros a unit. I reckon wall shelves are completely unnecessary and only for people like showing off their prowess with a drill...

CaligulaCorday · 19/08/2006 23:06

Yes but wall shelves fit exactly into that alcove, with no wasted space. No IKEA unit can give you that perfection. [starey-eyed emoticon]

SecurMummy · 19/08/2006 23:10

No forget Au-Pair world, send him to me

I live in a very historical town, lots of opportunity for educational stuff and plenty of night life to suit a young hunk....

CaligulaCorday · 19/08/2006 23:11

OH yeah sm, night life huh...

I have gone off the idea of anyone under 30 ever since SofiaAmes told me it wasn't worth it...

SecurMummy · 19/08/2006 23:18

yes, a wonderful night life - I may even let him go out occasionally....

Really Sopia said that? Hmm, maybe I should research? (In the interest of balanced study of course)

CaligulaCorday · 19/08/2006 23:19

LOL, yes her sample may not have been weighted correctly...

SecurMummy · 19/08/2006 23:35

Ok, promise to do some good work on the weighing front then...

fistfullofbanners · 19/08/2006 23:38

IKEA does it for my alcoves, I can tell you

girrafey · 20/08/2006 08:11

we would seriously be interested but he would have to like cats as we have a kitten. what are the dates monkey? also would he be willing to improve mine and my partners french and german? also no offence can he get the equivalent of our crb etc. ( not that i would leave him alone with dd before anyone jumps on me)
