Is this balloon alive?

On Valentine's Day my sister bought my kids a heart shaped helium filled balloon which has remained "floating" ever since! IME they usually go down after a couple of days. The string has been cut of the balloon so it is now just a floating heart which floats between the floor and about 5 foot high. Tonight however, my sis and her hubby came and the balloon was in the lounge. As we were all talking I noticed that the balloon had floated off through the kitchen and had embarked on a journey up the stairs. It then came to rest at the top of the stairs before making it's way into my son's bedroom. Aaaargh!!!!!! dd will not now go to bed! (She's 11 today)

Should I kill the balloon and risk being called a murderer by my son?

How odd. Although my dd's balloons from her first birthday last September are still full of air (not helium).

Don't kill it!

I got a helium balloon when ds2 was born. He's now 13 months old and the bl**dy thing is still alive and well!

KILL IT! DO IT NOW! BEFORE IT HAUNTS YOU FOR ANOTHER 12 MONTHS!!

Oooh, don't kill it! It could have years of life left . I've got a balloon 'on a stick' from when my DD was born and it's still in perfect shape....she's two this april!

This balloon is not in perfect shape though it looks like a wrinkled old prune

UPDATE: Just been in to check on dd and the balloon is hovering by her bed.

It is now hovering on landing heading towards my bedroom - does it know I'm plotting to kill it. Am going to try and take photo to paste on to message board. Can I do that?

LOL you lot

This has happened to us several times, and my dd was very scared too (as was i ).
When ds was born, we had a total of 5 in the flat all in one go. I had one for ds being born, then my mom bought my dd's one each so they wouldn't feel left out, dd2 had one for her birthday, and dd1 still had hers from her birthday, so i was forever being followed by bloody balloons.
In the end i snipped each one at the bottom and let the gas out, then folded them up and put them in their keepsake boxes.

Just don't let it get too close to you. I would guess that death-by-demon-balloon would not be the nicest of endings.

Grown-up Ds1 was staying with us and got up for the loo one night. He opened his bedroom door to be confronted by a burglar. Being a brave lad, he yelled 'Get out of my house.' and landed the intruder a mighty punch - except it was a peripatetic helium balloon!

Balloon now seems to have settled in ds's bedroom. I had uploaded pictures of demon balloon onto ofoto but don't know if I can link to them.
