zippitippitoes · 04/08/2006 13:09

right "360 degree appraisals in order to identify staffing issues"

360 degree means what exactly...fully comprehensive?

appraisal..review of work achieved?

identify...pick out?

staffing needs...people who can actually do the job

Basically how it works is in a normal appraisal it is usually handed down from whom ever your line manager is. So a lot of staff get quite frustrated as they will have their flaws etc pointed out by their manager. A 360 degree appraisal is completed anonymously and is an appraisal of everybodys work ethic. So for example if you are working in a office environment you would normally be appraised by your supervisor who in turn would be appraised by their supervisor etc. 360 degree will enable the admin assistant to be able to appraise what thye think of the attitude of their line manager or chief exec etc without repercussions. It tends to get rid of a lot of dissatisfaction amongst employs who feel they can not complain about certain things their managers do without having some sort of comeback. So you are appraised on all levels from your staff to your manager to people working at the same level..hence 360 degree.
It is a way of being able to ensure that people are doing their jobs in a way that is productive to all stafifng levels rather than working on a complete hierarchy system...can try and find some bits onine for you.

and the other word was dissertation..lol

  1. define problem/understand situation - analyse
2. Define key issues and criteria against which solutions can be measured 3. Develop alternative solutions 4. Specify plan of action that will resolve key issue..... (I think)
zippitippitoes · 04/08/2006 13:20

I get that now..the trouble with management speak is that you can't just be averagely intelligent and translate it you have to know what it means don't you?

well quite probably I haven't passed the online tests I did..

but if I have i think I'm going to struggle to do these tests..I don't know the language

OP posts:
Nemo1977 · 04/08/2006 13:21

What is the job?

zippitippitoes · 04/08/2006 13:21

can't help thinking dominiconnor might be useful here

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 04/08/2006 13:22

Blackduck · 04/08/2006 13:22

Its all part of a particular 'lingo' every profession has its own and its just a way of keeping people out! (I work in IT and believe me we talk another language just to blind all non-IT people )

Nemo1977 · 04/08/2006 13:23

A large amount of management problems are to do with staff unease and motivation.

obviously can also cover production/buisness strategy flaws etc.

Blackduck · 04/08/2006 13:23

would have thought it would be a case study of some kind that you will need to analyse

Nemo1977 · 04/08/2006 13:29

Agree as it is quite a random statement depending on what level management etc.

zippitippitoes · 04/08/2006 13:32

the online tests weren't directly applicable to the job..the first was probably to do with being determined and committed to deliver on time and effectively, the second was analysing statistics and the third was managing people and conflict under time pressure

I have noted Blackducks list in my file

I've done so much work towards this job and I know I'm not going to progress really

I reckon they will give you a scenario and ask you to analyse key contributing factors, offer solutions, projected outcome, time scale, targets etc - depends on area of management to content - whether it would be a personnel issue, workflow issue, financial redirection issue etc etc
