I'm stuck for ideas for DH's birthday. Want something special or fun. Ideas please!

My lovely DH's birthday is in a month and I want to buy him something to remember, be it a day out or something to keep. Thought I'd post it up on MN to see what fab suggestions you lot come up with. My absolute max budget is £150 (would prefer to spend less) but I want to spoil him as I think he's worth it .

He's a gadget man, loves food, likes to try different things. Last year I bought him a white water rafting session which was brilliant (I wished I'd bought one for me too!). This year I'm stuck for ideas.

I probably can't check for replies tonight as he's due home any time now and I want to keep this thread a secret!

If you have any change left over, every man would appreciate a subscription to Viz (£15)

Whizzz · 02/08/2006 20:50

How about a cooking 'experience' ?? There seems to be huge numbers of the red letter day type things now

JanH · 02/08/2006 20:58

There are lots of different driving experiences - off-road, Ferrari, rally etc - would he like one of those?

rabbitrabbit · 02/08/2006 21:00

Hi,

This is a good website for gadget freaks: iwantoneofthose

My dh is a gadget freak and I can usually find something on there for him. hth

JanH · 02/08/2006 21:01

This looks like fun!

(Assume you live in Notts?)

I have been trying to book a tandem skydive for DP with no sucess in our area. I have finally booked him a one hour flying lesson.

I have before got him a day out digger racing, that was great fun.

bobsmum · 02/08/2006 21:33

Saw an advert yesterday for a Spy weekend billed as a team building type thingy along the lines of Spooks on BBC. If he's a gadget man he might fancy that? This was in Glasgow. Will Google.

bobsmum · 02/08/2006 21:35

I think this is it (or similar). Could be really cringey or could be a laugh.

Spy games

NottsMum · 03/08/2006 15:01

Ooh a great start! Will look into the cooking days, not sure about the 4 x 4 day as he had a Subaru rally driving experience for his 30th and he wasn't that impressed by it. Saying that though, we're in the process of applying to emigrate to Perth, so you never know, it could be useful!

I don't think the spying game is really him but I will have a look at the gadget site, problem is he always wants the expensive stuff!!

Please keep the ideas flowing....

Oh, and thank you so much!

ballooning?
Helicopter flight somewhere

dmo · 03/08/2006 15:41

red letter days are great
hubby got a ds lite which he loves
a tom tom
car/computer mags for a year
projeter (per fav of dh)
mobile phone
x-box 360
something for car like wheel trims

NottsMum · 03/08/2006 15:44

What's a ds lite? Is it a "posh" small torch? Do you know how much they are?

Wheel trims no good as we'll be selling the car when we go to Oz.

Good ideas though DMO.

its touth screen

robinpud · 03/08/2006 23:16

Nottsmum- The Manor school of fine cuisine at Widmerpool does super cookery days. They used to do a curry day and a meat one amongst others
You could get him a session at the climbing wall with an instructor- real man stuff.

wine tasting day through red letter?
Balloon ride from wollaton park?

NottsMum · 03/08/2006 23:37

Ooh a climbing wall session. That's a really good idea. He used to go to Creswell Crags in Derbyshire when he was a student and every time we've ever driven past he's recalled fond memories. I shall look into it.

Can't afford a balloon ride. They're very expensive and when we've talked about it before we've both said we would want to do it together (so that would double the price).

Ring the climbing wall on Haydn Road and explain what you want. They wll tailor it to what he wants to do- make sure you get them to give him some abseiling experience. They are a load of blokes down there and it's very spit and sawdust but it shouldn't break the bank and you can all go and watch. That should leave enough change for a nice meal out!

dmo · 04/08/2006 10:29

lovely idea robinpud

foxinsocks · 04/08/2006 10:31

has he got an ipod or mp3 player thingy

Dorisdaisy · 04/08/2006 10:42

How about 'going ape' its great! We done it as a family and was fab (only for children over 12) costs approx £18pr prson took 1 1/2 hrs to go round cours. Plenty of money left for a nice meal out together!

NottsMum · 04/08/2006 10:48

Robinpud I will definitely give them a bell to see what they can do.

DD, lovely idea but our DDs are 23 months and 5, so I don't think they'd want to hang around for an hour and a half while mum and dad had a load of fun without them!

He's already got an MP3 player which is gathering dust somewhere....

Thanks for all your help ladies

BOD thinking of doing the Viz subscription for dh's birthday. Where did you find it for £15? Have found £19.99 so far.
