I have just signed up to take part in this year's Race for Life to help raise money for Cancer Research UK. I saw the advert for it Tesco Clubcard magazine and felt inspired. Just wondering whether anyone else is taking part or planning to - there are loads of races (you can walk or run!)all over the UK. Definitely a positive start to my day!

I am signed up to do the race in Derby in may. This will be the third time. When I first did it I had never run in my life and I followed their training programme which is excellent. It is awonderful atmosphere, a great chance to raise money for a good cause and of course to get fit in the bargain Go for it

I'm not, but I need to kick start my running regime next week. (regime may be too strong a word for it). I'll pick up a Tesco magazine and take a look. Amymum, I'll let you know if I take take the plunge.

I'm planning to do the Worcester race. I ran it last year and it was great fun. I was pleased from a personal point also, as my sister had recently had a mastectomy. Good news is, she is over all her treatment and plans to run the race also this year. Good luck everyone.

sylvev - fancy some more company?

Is it on Pitchcroft again? (Now we're only talking yards from my house)

Ailsa, absolutely! My sister is now going to walk the race, so I would welcome the company. This year it is going to be around the city streets, so time for window shoppig also!!

sylvev · 02/03/2002 17:26

oops, should be "shopping"

elwar · 23/05/2002 16:22

I did the York Race for Life on Sunday - Fantastic day, great atmosphere. Over 4,000 women getting out & making a difference to something thats close to everyones heart. Do think about giving it a try - you don't need to run, the majority of women taking part walk anyway. Have a look at the Race for Life website

amymum · 24/05/2002 09:33

Congratulations, elwar! I'm doing the race in Bedford on 16 June. Have decided that running may not be my thing, and will probably walk - its only 3 miles after all. I'm also contemplating doing the Flora Women's Challenge in Hyde Park in September - anyone else signed up?

Well done Elwar !
Amymum, I'm doing the Newbury one on June 16th so it's nice to know I won't be the only Mumsnetter suffering that day. I think it's quite apt that it's Father's Day so the dads can have plenty of 'quality time' with their offspring ! Good luck.

tigermoth · 24/05/2002 13:23

Thanks, Elwar, for that link. I'll see what's happening this summer around London. Hope my bunions are up to it. (See sore feet thread)

sylvev · 25/05/2002 15:00

Well done. I'm doing the Worcester race on 16th June (I think its the 16th anyway, must check the details)! I ran it last year and it was a great day!Anyone else running the Worcester one?

Twink · 16/06/2002 09:33

Good luck to everyone doing it, I've just donned my T-shirt (how small are their sizes ??!) and am off to brave the drizzle !

sylvev · 16/06/2002 20:56

How did you get on Twink? I registered, bought the t-shirt but couln't go in the end due to suffering with sinusitus over the past 2 weeks. I was looking forward to it as it was a great event last year. Did you run in Worcester?

Twink · 16/06/2002 22:11

That's a real shame Sylvev, maybe next year ??

I ran in Newbury, the race was on the racecourse and it was bl**dy hard work cos the grass was really long and the ground was lumpy but I was hoping to do it under half an hour and made it in 29 mins.

It was an amazing atmosphere, loads of people had 'In memory/celebration' signs on their backs which was very emotional.
I'd definitely recommend it to any novice walkers/joggers as an ideal starting point to aim for as well as raising money for something which affects so many of us one way or another

sylvev · 17/06/2002 18:47

Well done Twink. The worcester race was around the race track last year and was full of puddles and bumps. I was looking forward to this year as the race was to be around the city centre, (useful to have the distraction of shop windows)!

Zoe · 18/06/2002 18:08

I did the Manchester one on 8th June - I SO didn't want to do it on a wet Sunday morning but I was glad that I did - the atmosphere was brilliant and I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone for next year

PS I am the least fit person I know!
