Why do you shop at ocado?

Versus e.g. Sainsbos or or waitrose? It seems pricey to me!?

It's a little more expensive but not by much - especially when you find out that the fruit and veg and meat last a hell of a lot longer than other shops so you don't need to shop as often.

My food bill has gone from £90 a week in ASDA to £90 a fortnight with Ocado. I'm buying more or less the same things too.

Farrowandbawl · 25/01/2014 19:45

ooh, and with the smart card pass thing, I'm saving a fortune there too.

There isn't a lot that I buy full price, it's either in a 3 for £10 or half price or something.

ChazzerChaser · 25/01/2014 19:47

Cos I tried using the sainsburys website and it was awful compared to my ocado app. I found it so irritating I couldn't even be arsed with a £15 off voucher.

And I save compared to going to a physical supermarket so I already feel like I'm saving.

ToffeeWhirl · 25/01/2014 19:48

Really, Farrow? I use Ocado, but always feel slightly guilty that I'm probably overspending. I think the quality is consistently good, though.

Philoslothy · 25/01/2014 19:49

Good quality , easy and cheaper than driving to Waitrose which is 1/2 drive.

muchadoaboutsomething · 25/01/2014 19:49

Because it is cheaper for some things, and I shop at Ocado, sainsburys and markets for different things. So for example I only by grocery stuff flour sugar coffee etc not fruit and veg, meat, eggs etc which I buy locally seasonally and is cheaper and nicer.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 25/01/2014 19:50

I used to shop at sainsburys but my shopping is cheaper at waitrose now.
There are 5 of us and I spend £120-130 a week with no wastage as opposed to £150-160 a week at sainsbueys with chicken often going off long before the use by date

NormHonal · 25/01/2014 19:50

Because Tesco pissed me off one too many times and I had a £20-off-first-shop Ocado voucher. After that, I was hooked. They never, ever screw up. Their app is brilliant. A revelation after Tesco's shiteness.

rockybalboa · 25/01/2014 19:52

Because I can't bear doing my shopping in actual shops. Because it became really hard to get a Waitrose Delivery slot within even a week of the day you place the order. And because of the way their system works you very rarely get substitutions. Oh, and because I can do my shopping using the app on my phone. We use Smart Pass too and only get deliveries Tues-Thurs so no additional charges.

drawohamme · 25/01/2014 19:53

Great range of free from products, much better than the other supermarkets.

Cordial · 25/01/2014 19:56

Because I can't remember the last time the out a substitution in.

Because the site is easy to use

Because you see what is in stock live

Because they show up when they say the will.

Because they give me wine on the anniversary of my first shop !

Basically I love ocado! An epic example of all round amazing customer service.

Cordial · 25/01/2014 19:57

Oh and they stock this odd Swedish beetroot thing that I love Wink

Crazy8 · 25/01/2014 19:58

Everything lasts longer. I use a lot of coriander and the waitrose/ocado lasts the longest. The fruit and veg is always great. They sort out any issues really efficiently. I ordered from Sainsburys occasionally but much prefer the ocado delivery drivers. They are always so polite.

GirlWithTheDirtyShirt · 25/01/2014 19:59

It's better quality. Actually, much better quality.

And it's cheaper. I spend up to £70 a week but that's including booze. I'd spend that and more in the supermarket and end up with much worse quality produce and no booze.

ItsATIARA · 25/01/2014 19:59

It's the lack of substitutions.

GirlWithTheDirtyShirt · 25/01/2014 20:01

And, actually this is a vital point, we live in a city and the supermarkets tend to be small and of the Metro variety. Which meant if I used Tesco or Sainsbo's I'd always get missing items as the store just doesn't stock them. I have maybe 3-4 replacements a year with Ocado.

SanityClause · 25/01/2014 20:01

I pay £110 per year, for as many deliveries as I want, provided they are £40 or more in value. It also gives first dibs on Christmas deliveries, but the delivery charge on these is extra.

In fact, I get two deliveries each week. Is is very convenient, because it is rare that I have to pop to a supermarket for forgotten items, or for something that hasn't a week.

They do a price match with Tesco, so that if the shopping is more, you get a voucher for the difference. This week, for example, I saved £1.22 compared to Tesco, so I don't get a voucher.

I used to use the MySupermarket.com website, where you could compare items directly between sainsburys, Tesco, Asda and Ocado. Often, the item I wanted to buy was not even available at other supermarkets.

There are hour time slots, and at busy times, ese are half an hour apart, so you could choose between 4 and 5, or 4:30 and 5:30, say.

The drivers are polite, and rarely late (although Friday nights are often problematic - avoid them if you can). There is never any difficulty getting a refund if an item is damaged.

The iPad and iPhone apps are really easy to use.

So, you get an excellent service, and it's not more expensive than the big supermarkets. (More than Aldi, but they don't deliver.)

Crazy8 · 25/01/2014 20:02

Also I had one delivery from waitrose recently and they gave me a 2 hour delivery window and we're still 1 & 1/2 hours late!! Ocado app is amazing. I can place my order from my phone wherever I am.

Jenijena · 25/01/2014 20:03

I had a voucher, loved the app, shop by 'show all offers' and delivery is always prompt. Rarely have a substitution. I've never tried anywhere else, but it's cheaper than physical shopping (sainsburys usually) used to be.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/01/2014 20:04

I've shopped at Ocado for at least 5 years. It was no dearer than other supermarkets.

It was seriously convenient, I hate visiting shops.

I've stopped because they've opened an Aldi a 3 minute drive for my house. I'm in and out in under 30 minutes, which is as long as it took for me to online shop.

Aldi is cheaper than all supermarkets I've found.

GiraffesAndButterflies · 25/01/2014 20:07

Because the other month the shit sainsbo's website was broken and I had to re-enter my order with Ocado. So I got to do the exact comparison myself rather than relying on their own claims. It came out a few pence cheaper. And their app is SO good. Sainsburys is positively painful to order from by phone, whether website or app.

PepeLePew · 25/01/2014 20:25

The app is just great. I want to use Waitrose for all sorts of reasons but I am so used to being able to update the order via the phone right up until the day before - using Waitrose is a huge effort in comparison. It's far and away the best online delivery service and I HATE supermarkets so
I can't be doing with going into them.

sluj · 03/02/2014 22:01

They take food direct from the warehouse rather than from an actual store. That means it is fresher and has not been transported to a shop then to a shelf. It has also not been picked up and rejected by other shoppers in the store before it gets picked up by the person assembling the delivery orders. Misses out a whole stage in getting to you
