...anyone know how he can get into this?
He is 11 in June and has always been very interested in history (which dh and I have encouraged)
We have places like bosworth battlefield and belvoir castle and Warwick castle within an hours drive.
What should he do? Study?
I like the idea of him volunteering somewhere but pretty sure he is not old enough yet.
Any advice gratefully received ! :)

You'd have to go along with him I think. You can be on the refreshment stand dressed like a peasant.

Are there any local history groups he could get involved with? He'd probably meet a few like-minded folk there.

I will have to check it out....

There are battle reanactment groups dotted round the country, and children can participate in some of what they do.

Most people who do this are hobbyists (groups can get a fee for appearances); but if it sparks an interest, degrees such as archaeology or history might be a good choice, then look for museum curator opportunities and hope to bring it all together from there.

Yes...we have a very small museum in our village.
I may ask them about volunteering roles.

Are you in Norfolk? If so contact Ash or Amanda Dyer of Norwich and Norfolk Medievil association they do a lot of re enactments and would be happy to help your DS out even if you're not in Norfolk I know they have performed at Warwick before. Tell them Andrea sent you they're always willing to help get young people!e into history. Smile

This is their website - 14century.co.uk/

That's so kind of you!
We aren't in Norfolk sadly :(
We are in Leicestershire (but actually on the borders of lecis, Derbys and notts)
I may contact them anyway and ask their advice!
Thanks again x

Children often get to demonstrate what a child's life would be like during those times, they would have started an apprenticeship in a mentors house living far away from home at the age of seven. So he might get to demonstrate what training was like (after practising with weapons) as he progresses towards reenactment.

Tutbury Castle (Staffordshire) does things like this, the lady who organises it is Lesley Smith - pretty sure if you search for the Tutbury Castle website her email is on there. If not, PM me and I'll dig it out for you :)
