Tried to unblock the bath and the bath water has emptied all over the floor has come through the downstairs ceiling. The plaster is cracked and coming away at the joins of the plasterboard. It's stopped now but I think the light fitting is full of water. What on earth do I do now?

Thanks all. I've phoned Dh, he's less than pleased but he'll have until he gets home from work to think about it so hopefully won't be in too bad a mood later. The ceiling looks a bit of a mess but it looks like it will hold in place and just need cosmetic stuff. The light fitting will need sorting out properly but for now I've flicked the fuse thing to off so no electricity getting to it. Floor is mopped and jugs/bowls emptied. Glad of the hot weather which should dry it all up pretty quickly I hope. And the bath still needs sorting out . Just hope it doesn't all cost too much to put right.

Keep the breaker off until the area is completely dry. Should be safe then. Remember water can run down cables so may affect lights not directly under bath IYSWIM.

Oh, and really old ceilings can come down after a very serious soaking.
