I still feel obliged but don't have loads of money so can't understand why I do! Do you?

I don't

Pizza delivery guy gets a tip but only if the pizza is hot or if it is raining

I tip 10% in a restaurant if the service and food has been good. If it hasn't then they get nothing and walk out without feeling tight.

I tip my hairdresser about £5 but that is because he is lovely and is fab at his job.

Mini-cab drivers - if they turn up on time, they get a tip. Black cabs - they cost a fortune so I don't tend to tip.

I hate that you are obliged to tip for EVERYTHING in the States...regardless of the service. Everytime I am over there I find myself carrying cash around just for tips. I love Steve Buscemi's thoughts on this in Reservoir Dogs.

I tip the taxi driver 10% or so (unless he's been rubbish). Don't tip the hairdresser because the one who cuts my hair is the salon owner. Feel guilty about not tipping the shampooist. Tip normally 10-15% in restaurants, more if something outstandingly good has been done -- I try to remember to ask if the tip goes directly to the staff, but I do tend to forget, and I don't tip on top of a discretionary service charge (I know I should ask about what happens to that, and then take it off and tip instead if I don't like the answer, but I don't).

£10 at hairdressers plus presents for extra good cuts
10% to taxis
10 - 20% to waitresses

Because....that is our culture

Would consider it obnoxious not to tip unless service was dire

Also tip others for good service or tell their manager how great they are eg chocolates to Royal Mail depot etc

There is enough CRAP service around that we really ought to appreciate the good stuff!

Mind you, round ours everyone from the people who deliver the free paper to the window cleaner come knocking on your door wishing you a "Merry Xmas". That cheeses me off. I don't like being made to feel obliged to give someone an "Xmas" tip just because they get paid to bring me a copy of the local free paper when they can be @rsed - and the window cleaner charges enough as it is
