Hi

Well, the title says it really. Just set up my new router and wireless connection due to the last one being faulty. When I set it up before I secured the network as part of the set up process, but wasn't offered the choice this time. Can someone please tell me how to do it? I'm sure it's really simple

I can't help, but just wanted you to know you are not the only ones with an unsecured one

Some techy types think it's A Good Thing to leave them unsecured. Sort of free love and peace type of thing.

RTFM

you should be able to set it so that it only connects to known machines - so you set the known mac addresses of the machines you want to allow.

you should be able to use a web browser to connect to your router. I think it is usually 192.168.0.1

Thank you for the replies.

Lula, I know what you mean about the free love but I've been having lots of problems with my wireless connection, which is why I've got a new router, but I still seem to be having probs so don't want anything interfering with it.

Tamba, I'm sure that's code for something really useful, but I'm clueless. And throckenholt, that's completer gibberish to me too

RTFM means Read The Fucking Manual

I would like ours to be secured as well but we are clueless x 2, no, make that x 3 actually, because I read this thread title out to dp earlier (hoping it would reap rewards for us too) and ds laughed scornfully and said "Well, I can't, mummy."

Sorry schaps - couldnt resist.

I picked it up from another mnner - at least he cant say i ignore everything he says

as they say - read the manual .

Seriously - there should be instructinos with it on how to log in to the router. Then it should help you work through the options to secure it.

Otherwise - go to the library or book shop and get Wi-fi networking for dummies - I happen to have it here because I am trying to work out what I need for a new network.

I would offer to help you - but I think we would both end up very confused (since I am an almost total novice with windows and networking - I am a linux/unix bod). It would be much better to get the book and work through it when you have the pictures and examples to follow.
