.... accidentally let a Pampers Active fit nappy sneak into your laundry load Now have a washing machine FULL of little jelly crystals and my wet washing is also coated in the stuff. BUGGER, BUGGER, BUGGER...

Oh no! How on earth will you get it all out? How big are the crystals?

Now you wouldn't get this with cloth....

WSM · 04/03/2004 09:36

LOL ! I've had the dustbuster in there to get the majority out (they are about the size of sea salt crystals, only clear and jelly-like), and then I've had to run the machine on empty for a 30min cycle in the hope that it'll clear them via the filter. The machine is new (less than 6mo old) so I'm hoping I haven't ruined it !

TBH, I'm a bit of a laundry disaster anyway, I'm amazed that this is the first time it has happened in the 18 months we've had nappies in the house.

WSM, make sure you clear the filters out afterwards!

Unfortunately for me, I know all about dirty filters.

WSM · 04/03/2004 09:44

Last time I opened the filter drawer bit there was about 2 pints of water trapped in there and it just came gushing out all over my kitchen floor

oooooooooo yuk. poor you, but with cloth, dh didnt flush the contects once and i didnt check so ended up with poo in the machine. that was very yukky.

collision · 04/03/2004 09:52

I go bonkers if I found someone (DH) has left a tissue in his pocket and put it in the machine!! Poor you. LOL

oliveoil · 04/03/2004 09:53

I've often wondered what is in the nappies to collect the pee (Pampers Active fan here too) sometimes the morning one weighs a ton.

Good luck on your crystal removal, bet they've never had that one on the insurance claim 'Jelly Crystal Pollution'.

HMC - Did it work??

Janh · 04/03/2004 09:57

WSM, I know I did this at least once when mine were in Pampers and the machine survived. If you take the wet washing outside and give it all a good shake it should get a lot of it off (not sure how the garden will react mind you!) and another wash should shift the rest.

WSM · 04/03/2004 10:00

Thanks janh, I'll give it a whirl. I did make the mistake of shaking the clothes out onto the utility floor, BIG MISTAKE. There were loads more trapped than I expected ! So at 10.30pm last night I was on my knees in the utility with the dustbuster in hand. Everytime I thought I'd finished, I'd stand up and find a whole load more that I'd missed. Honestly, I could have slapped myself !

There were no obvious ill effects - but my laundry didn't smell of 'summer meadows' like it usually does

Twinkie · 04/03/2004 10:06

I did that once - just stick everything on to wash again and agin until it is clear - lazy I know but hey you just don't know what are in those damn crystals you are putting next to your babies skin do you - as oliveoil says - you don't get that with cloth!!

WSM · 04/03/2004 10:06

Make sure you put the filter back properly after you've checked it or else there will be another washing disaster. My kitchen was flooding for two hours after I messed with my filter. Hubby still doesn't know. He blaimed it on the new washer which we'd only had two weeks and played hell with the supplier. Still haven't plucked up the courage to tell him it was me (now twelve months on). He spent the following three weekends decorating, putting down laminate floor and installing new kitchen units. Thank god for accidental damage on isurance policies!

Check and double check!!

Blimey, it's a laugh a minute at your house, isn't it? (Not stalking you, honest!)
