If they'd had a bowl of cereal at 9.00am, would you have let them have half a demi baguette before they went swimming at 12.45?

er , probably otherwise they'd be ravenous afterwards, why ?

fattiemumma · 26/07/2006 12:57

not entirely sure what a demi baguette is.

is it just swimming as a play activity or swimming as in serious sport club? if its just messing around for fun in the pool i would allow it...if it were a formal swimming lesson then no.

Feistybird · 26/07/2006 12:58

supposed to leave an hour between eating and swimming.

dmo · 26/07/2006 12:58

i know it says not to eat before swimming but i think it means proper swimming not just playing
a light snack would be ok before a proper swim otherwise you would feel faint

earlgrey · 26/07/2006 13:03

fattie, it's half of one. And there was nothing in it but some butter. And they're 6 and 7 and unlikely to do and Olympic stuff ....

should be fine then
future notice give them lunch at 11 before swimming at 12.45 then they can have a snack after swimming too

couldn't send tham swiming on just a bowl of cereal 4 hours ago! they need energy to keep going or they'd be seiously out of sorts.

anyway, if you gave it to them before they left the house it'd be pretty much sunk in by the time they were in the water wouldn't it?

fattiemumma · 26/07/2006 13:11

in which case, go for it.

of course a full stomach wold cause a few problems but i doubt a snack would cause to many problems

roisin · 26/07/2006 13:24

I love your link Snorkle! My mum always told us this too, but I've never heard of anyone ever having stomach cramps or similar.

We have never worried about swimming and eating. DSs have often had swimming lessons early on a Sunday: They wouldn't have been able to maintain their energy levels without breakfast, and I certainly wasn't getting up even earlier to have time for a good breakfast and an hour's waiting time! Even now they're on fairly serious swimming lessons full stomachs haven't caused them a problem.

So, is the concensus - yes, or no? Feel horribly guilty about this one. I thought they were starving, H told me to bog off and wait.
