I managed 25 years of life without knowing who Pele was. I managed 36 years without knowing a dodge was a kind of american car. dh managed 25 years without realising that the name The Beatles was a play on the word beat. how do educated well-read people manage stuff like this? and don't you love it when you learn something like that?

have also seen/heard an organ being played at a basketball match, similar in style to the piano usesd to create dramatic mood in silent films

Steve Coogan is a wanker - I thought I was the only one who thought so (really didn't like alan partridge either)

edam · 25/07/2006 22:30

actually I've only ever been to one ice-hockey match so my sample's probably not scientific or anything.

Gingerbear · 25/07/2006 22:31

I do like these bizarre meandering threads.
They make you feel pissed when you haven't touched a drop.

JackieNo · 25/07/2006 22:31

thank you moondog - I will

moondog · 25/07/2006 22:32

The British are great and Britain is a wonderful place.
Only dawned on me in past few years.

moondog · 25/07/2006 22:33

I didn't know texting or MSN existed until about 2 years ago.

edam · 25/07/2006 22:33

Now I'm wondering if we've got an immersion heater and whether it's permanently on or something. How would you know? There's a white box with a little window with a flame at the bottom but I've no idea what it's called...

Beauregard · 25/07/2006 22:33

still dont get the msn thing

hunkermunker · 25/07/2006 22:34

Ice hockey

Reference to a pipe organ down the page. But it says "blaired" when I would've thought it was blared, but since the det-rit-us de-try-tus furore on this thread, who knows?!

cece · 25/07/2006 22:34

That Hinge and Brackett and Dame Edna are not really women

Gingerbear · 25/07/2006 22:35

I never knew that you can poach an egg in just a pan of water, without a little cup thingummydoodah.

ilovecaboose · 25/07/2006 22:36

ooh I've got a boiler like that - ours has got no water tank, but heats up water as you need it. Does that sound familiar (not a clue what its called).

I am getting pissed for a 2nd night in a row (rarely rarely drink normally) on OH's homemade wine - good but surprisingly strong (the kind where you don't realise its affected you until you try to stand up)

MarsLady · 25/07/2006 22:37

I found out earlier this year that when people said "I can't be arsed" they weren't saying "I can't be asked which is what I've been saying for years. Oops! No wonder people thought I was being rude.

edam · 25/07/2006 22:38

HM, you are right, it is blared, not blaired (blaired sounds like an unpleasant encounter with our not-very-dear leader...)

Mascaraohara · 25/07/2006 22:39

Who played the most famous dracula (apparently I should know this)

moondog · 25/07/2006 22:39

Homemade wine.
Oh God,get a bucket by te bed while you are still reasonably operational.

edam · 25/07/2006 22:40

Oh, we've got a hot water tank, does that mean we don't have an immersion thingummy doo-dah, then? Phew.

ilovecaboose · 25/07/2006 22:40

Its quite good actually - tastes a bit like port but apparently made with tea. Never tasted them for years though until he tricked me into it! WIne is better than some of the strange concoctions he has made over the years though!

Bozza · 25/07/2006 22:41

Hmm - ks I am thinkng that Durham railway station is not down a hill or in a cutting. I know only too well the pain of hiking up the hill with my bags/books as a student because I was too skint to afford a taxi.

JackieNo · 25/07/2006 22:41

edam - you might have an immersion heater if you have a hot water tank - definitely none if you haven't. It's like a big kettle element inside your hot water tank, iyswim.
