do you give your kids anything to eat after tea but before bed?

occurred to me the other day that it's a long time to go without food - ds (14mo) has tea at 5:00 (sometimes just before) and then no milk at bedtime - has refused it for a couple of months now. wondered if anyone else gave their older babies /toddlers anything else (thinking of cereal or something just before bath at 6:30?).

cracker and a mug of milk (aged 3 & 5) keeps them ging til breakfast as they too have tea at 5.00

going even

PrettyCandles · 20/07/2006 17:36

Nope. Only a drink of milk with their bedtime story.

mine all have supper before bed, otherwise they wake up during the night with tummy ache, which I can only assume is them being hungry.

Tis milk and biscuits, toast or cereal normally, altho last night tea consisted of fruit only because of the heat and that was all they wanted, so supper ended up being chip butties at 8.30pm. Well past bedtime, but it was DS2's 4th b/day so I didn't mind.

No, but DD doesn't have dinner until 6:30pm, as we all eat together. She has a light tea at home or nursery around 3:15 though.

southeastastra · 20/07/2006 17:45

mine have dinner at 5ish and don't stop eating until bedtime!

ComeOVeneer · 20/07/2006 17:45

Mine have their evening meal at 5.30 then (if they have eaten well) they are allowed some fruit if they want before bed then both have a glass/cup of milk before bed (ds 18 months at 7pm and dd 4.5 at 8pm).

psychomum5 · 20/07/2006 17:50

actually mine are all more like southeastastrs's.....don't really stop eating.!

That said tho, it is all youghurts, fruit, cheese, breakfast items etc. Then it would be biscuits and milk too just before bed and teeth.

joelallie · 20/07/2006 17:53

Yep. Loads of stuff usually. But if they've eaten their dinner I don't mind. It's usually fruit and cheese and crackers or plain digestives. Water or milk to drink.

if wqe happen to have had early dinner I will do cereal or a sandwich before bed - am fairly strict - the choice of food is basically mine not theirs (older ones) and my 14 mth old has weetabix or porridge

Enid · 20/07/2006 18:20

mine often have cocoa and a piece of toast
